The internals are an LG multi-format drive. LG used to sell it (or the prior "14x" version of it) as a standalone desktop drive ... you could even pick them up at Best Buy. Now they only seem to offer it as an internal drive, and in that form it'll work in most enclosures; the OWC version is just Mac-centric and pre-built. And if the guts ever fail, just buying the bare drive and swapping it out should be all that's needed.

That said, I've not managed to wear one of these things out yet!

Looked at it - but this time i'm almost tempted to go away from Woo altogether. I'm trying to find some solid state amps that have the detail retrieval i'm looking for.

Fighting a losing battle here. I'm loving the new job but still trying to figure out office/building dynamics. Speakers are too loud, iems too insulating and HD600 too warm for my office. I feel like Goldilocks. Any ideas for other options? Maybe non-isulating iems? Or light, over-ear headphones? I'm in Orange County now and if the HD600 was too warm in February...

Have you looked at the iSine 10 and 20? They seem to be made for your use case.

Have you considered on-ear headphones? They don't get as warm

Airpods, if you're using iPhone. No, I'm not joking. If the options are non-noise cancelling/isolating earbuds & open IEM (a la Sine), having no cable around is a major convenience. It sounds better than Grado.

Portapros tend to grab at my hair. Sold it off before it caused me a bald spot.

How about earbuds like the VE Monks?

Yup. Ve monk user here. Best option I found at work. Unbelievable sound for such little money. I'm talking about first ones though. I have a v2 pair that does not sound as good as the v1.

I'll take a look at them! Razordog's prices are pretty good. I haven't read any real reviews yet.

Sadly, I've tried a ton of on-ears. Except perhaps the KEF M500, the clamp kills my tragus. I just can't used to them for more than a half hour. Good option though!

I have yet to go there. Started exploring last night.

    No iphone...

I had them once but it was a little meh compared to all the hype was hearing. But I probably had unrealistic expectations... Maybe I should give another shot!

I also was a little underwhelmed by the Monk... It was the version 2 though. I love the idea of a great pair of earbuds though. After inears the bud seemed so fidgety though...

Thanks for all the recommendations guys! It confirms my suspicions that options are limited, but its not time to give up yet!

    hey guys,

looking for a good wireless BT inear set (with Iphone 6) that I can take to sports, sounds and fits good enough. Looking to spend up to 150€. Could take some noname stuff for 20-30€ but I don't wanna experiment around if there are rocksolid choices/suggestions. Just get'em and focus on the training.

In order from the most recommended to the least:
    Jaybird / Bose QC30 / Airpods / new Beats with W1 chip.

@imackler I just realized that Bose QC30 (not QC35) has different levels of noise cancellation, so it should do good job for office setting. It's also comfortable and necklace-style wireless. Sound wise, they're fine although the treble can be unnatural due to DSP. Tyll approves QC35, as well QC20 & QC25. QC35 demo is plentiful at Best Buy outlets.

Get the Monk Plus ear buds by Veclan. Too affordable to ignore and they sound better than a stock M50 for 1/10ths of the price at least. The tips alter the sound to your taste and they are now my daily PC-audio headphones. Easy to find on Ebay and other places.

    Recommended.

Jaybird will be my recommendation as well. I have had the original X for a few years now, very good. I assume the X3 is even better.

    Hi, I'm new here.

I just bought a Jotunheim amp-only, and I have a ZMF Ori and an Emu Teak arriving tomorrow.

I need a new dac with optical and USB inputs (and will accept a USB signal from an Android phone), and that will complement my Jotunheim.

I'm hearing the Schiit Bifrost is the way to go, but I hear they may have a replacement soon.

What's the cheapest DAC I can get that will fit my needs? I just dropped a bunch of money and wasn't expecting my old dac to die.

    Thanks in advance!

    • Schiit Modi Multi-bit follow the link and select the Multi-bit option
    • A used Emotiva DC-1. Here's one on eBay ending tomorrow.
    • Alternatively, you could always buy a used D/S Bifrost and upgrade it later. I prefer the Modi multibit to the AK Bifrost, but if you expect to free up some funds later, it's functional as a stop-gap solution until you can affort the multibit upgrade or whatever other upgrade they've released by the time you have more funds.

Depending on funds, the Emotiva gets my vote. It is a pretty darn good piece of gear, versatile , and you can keep it balanced from DAC to amp via xlr.

That said, I like my Bifrost MB!

    What wood for your Ori?

Funny story. Mine is (was) the Cherry one in my avatar, and when I was drinking the other night, I decided I had to have a Blackwood one, so I bought it. The Blackwood is arriving tomorrow, and I just sold my Cherry.

My Emu Teak is arriving tomorrow, but I have no Dac.

Someone on hf is asking for $365 for his used Bifrost. Should I take a shot, or grab the Emotiva one because I can go balanced with it?
