Deep thoughts - Friend, Male, from Amsterdam

Pyrate

If you want to know about Amsterdam and NL, well I am too tired to care these days. Too many issues, too many idiots. Finally enough sleep. May 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM

Did a quick 5 KM under 30 minutes. All the legwork and jump rope work-outs helped out. Once you move, you feel good. I missed running...

Also getting back into running! I had a persistent pain around my knees that convinced me to give zero-drop shoes a try, so I have a whole bunch of new muscle pains now instead. Glad to be getting back to it though!

When I could still run it was always in the morning, exercise spikes cortisol and that fucks with the quality of sleep. Takes about 8h to get out of your system.

Not knowing which music to play, I gravitate towards Rush. One of the few bands that is memorable after years of listening. "Tom Sawyer"...

I love rush immensely! I can't think of another band that has a album I love in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s. That's 5 decades ! Only albums I don't adore out of all of them are power windows, hold your fire and roll the bones. Counterparts is an amazing later period album and the last one was amazing as well. 2012 clockwork angels. RIP Neil Peart the professor!!

I bought a few Rush albums in my teen years and liked them a lot. The last 5 years or so I like them 10x more, and I still haven't listened to much of their stuff from after about 1985 or so

The quality of the downtime is important also. I've had "vacations" that drained me more than if I'd simply gone to work. Proper downtime you come back with more energy than you started.

I am even moving to Ext4 for external USB backup drives.

I do not claim that this is a easy answer to all, because it is *more* temperamental about being just unplugged. But I got fed up with directories suddenly becoming unreadable, unwriteable and unremovable. ...

8 hrs is just a reference point, so it varies for different people. Also, as you mature (ahem, get older) you will need slightly less.

Your wake up time sets your sleep clock: You have to keep it consistent, even on weekends. What else works for me? Going to sleep—I don't mean getting ready for bed—by 10. Taking sublingual melatonin—not a generic brand—earlier in the evening. (Sleep doctors generally recommend 0.5mg at 6 & again at 8. But that makes me tired too early. So I do it at 8 & at 9.) I wish you only the best in all things.

In the past, people drank coffee prodigiously. The average Union soldier drank eight cups a day. And when there wasn't time to boil water, they crushed the beans with their rifle butts and chewed on the grinds. Each of my grandmothers drank six cups of black coffee over the course of the day.

Believe it or not, each to their own! But...

I was told by a psychic lady that coffee was bad for me. It took me a couple of years to realise that she was right. I cut down, went decaff, then gave it up.

NB: this was personal advice and not meant to say that coffee is bad for everybody.
