Mhm, I noticed the plugs being different thicknesses, so I've always been careful to check the marking on the plug before sticking it in. But thanks! I'll try wiping down the contacts with something to clean em up, that might be it.
Right, so jamming the cable in helped with the imbalance issue. That would indicate the problem might be with the jack because the plug looks fine, so... Dang.
The spring that holds down the two pins can also be replaced, but it's a tricky operation. But first try some contact cleaner on the contacts in the cups themselves. It's hard to reach, you might want to try soaking the pins and inserting them a couple of times. @Tyll Hertsens did a great video on spring replacement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBpic9jbjzs
Okay, so I noticed the left connector was a bit smooshy-feeling, checked the spring (driver housing just popped out after I took the outer mesh off and scared the crap outta me— did these take a drop?!), saw that the spring was a bit bent, used a shim to kinda reshape it.
By the way, thanks for the video @Riotvan! Was pretty useful— I'm not timid about tinkering, but whether or not I can put something back together... well suffice to say my biggest concern was that these weren't my cans and that buying a replacement would be a bit of a stretch, haha.
