    Pay for Adblock? Eh? Oh, you're using an iThingy?

    If you're on a non-iOS platform using a sensible browser, uBlock Origin is your best bet, mind. (I think I have Purify on my iOS devices, but admittedly, I haven't compared much, as it mostly does the job.)

    Had to set up Chrome on my Surface Pro. I missed some extensions and hey AdBlock was off. Old extensions no longer stay on when you have to reset them it seems, strange. I prefer a good ad-filter over no filter. Otherwise the old advertising hell returns to my screen. Next up setting up the new Firefox browser...

    I use 1blocker on my iPhone and for chrome on windows ublock, ghostery, noscript something and anti coinhive thingy. Forgot the exact names of the last two. Works great though but maybe coinhive is a bit redundant with noscript.

    DoNotTrack was one of my favourites. Ghostery was invasive in that some websites stopped working. Which meant some websites were terribly engineered. DoNotTrack and an effective ad-blocker/filter are often enough. The FireFox browser is really good with privacy extensions now...

    Riotvan, Ghostery has become somewhat evil, and sometimes breaks pages. Have a look at Privacy Badger instead- more basic but less shifty.

    I like to use UBlock Origin, UMatrix, HTTPs Everywhere and Privacy Badger.. but I wouldn't suggest UMatrix unless you're a massive nerd. All of those addons are reputable and efficient, though. I try not to run a zillion bits of cruft though, and depend on baked-in browser features where sensible.

    "Had to pay for AdBlock..."

    Really? ABP? Is this a new thing?

    (I have no clue what I have done to my PC over the years. Even when I turn ABP off, I still don't see any ads. )

    @Riotvan - fair warning, umatrix is awesome but a total pain initially. All the others are totally install and go, though, and suitable for anyone, even confused relatives ^_^

    I don't think that ABP is entirely ready to go "out of the box." One has to find and load the filters that result in a www free of facebook/twitter/etc, getting rid of all those horrible icons from everywhere. And, I realise it is an extreme example (and a site I don't visit now anyway) but how could anyone visit HeadFi without doing major element-hider work!

    @Thad E Ginathom - ABP is a bit crappy and evil. uBlock Origin is a good drop-in replacement, fwiw.

    @Kattefjaes: Insulting my friends! lol.

    Well, I'm too lasy to change stuff like that unless I'm forced to, but as FireFoxe's days in my house are numbered, the future is an open book. ...or a different car park. Or something.
