The biggest weakness of GO Gen 1 was Sabre sound. That itself would have been a showstopper. What might be more interesting would be a comparison against GOV2. I don't have the time or inclination. Too much other stuff on my desk that I need to rest and get back to owners.

Make sure you turn off all the DSP shit (on by default) for ZX2. My first experience with ZX2 with all the crap turned off was lackluster. I couldn't figure out why it sounded do weird until recently.

Anyone pick up the Cowon Plenue D? Doesn't look all that bad... The gold/black is on Amazon now for 200. I wish it had a line out but it looks like it could be an ok replacement for those who miss the simplicity of the ipod classic. The UI is supposed to be tolerable, at least.

I've been wanting to try the Plenue D out. Up to 100 hours battery life is certainly nothing to sneeze at. I'm guessing real life use is much less but still has to be the battery king.

I've read it uses a Wofson smartphone quality type D/A conversion.

Besides the qp1r, what dap will drive the hd650 without an extra amp?

I really like the way the qp1r pairs with the 650 and 800, but I'm not willing to spend a grand on a portable DAP. I guess I'd be willing to piggy back something onto my phone if need be, dap is still preferred. I have an HTC one m8. The dac is pretty decent. Any thoughts?

HTC M8 is one from just a few of great sounding smartphone...but I'm pretty sure it will lack of refinement from dedicated DAP has to offer...

    @shotgunshane

For a cheap and best price/performance DAP have you tried the Xduoo X3?

Has anyone heard the LG V10 phone? I was thinking of getting that as a phone. It has an ESS 9018 dac chip inside. Planing on using it for IEMs.

Great sounding device. I've had it since release date. Perfect for IEMS, even hard to drive ones. It has different modes, contingent upon the impedance of the iem as well.

I have a shanling m5 on loaner coming in tomorrow. It's reasonably priced, $499. I've read good things about it, we shall see.

I really like that "joystick" way to navigate the UI , very intuitive once you get used to it.
Cant really comment on sound as i only gets very short listening time with it , as far as i recalled , it is very fast and forward sounding dap which i kinda like it with Rock music.

I've got the Shanling M3 on loan at the. It's better than the Aune I had a couple months ago, but that's not really a positive endorsement.

HM650 (esp balanced) outputs a ton of power, drives Hd600 very well IMO

Received the Shanling M5, it's Ok. I don't think it's anything special. I definitely wouldn't purchase one. Also have the pinnacle P1 by Mee Electronics, but haven't listened to them yet. I've read good things about that so we shall see.

Listened a bit more to the M5, nice dap overall. No search function, again, which absolutely kills me. Listening to it right now, I prefer my X7, but other than no search, I could be happy with this. I'd prefer other daps over it though. Soundaware Esther definitely and, without a doubt, the LPG (really like this dap other than no search again).

Still nothing yet to sway me from my X7, but still debating on the LPG, really love that dap. The build alone, I absolutely love, feels like a brick. I prefer daps with some substance to them. Plus, PEQ is a sweet addition.

I've got the Shanling M2 and M3 on tour. Can't get either to recognize via usb and drivers do jack all. I can run an SD card in the M3 to play music but my impressions have been a staggering yawn. It's better than the Aune gear I had a couple months ago, but that's really not an endorsement for anyone involved. My Sansa Fuze must be running on 7 or 8 years by now and it's still better than these new crapola daps.
