@Marvey ... has Klipsch given you any restrictions on when you can post impressions / measurements of the beta copy they sent you?

    From my own observations,
Every incarnation of headphone using fostex biocellulous drivers has been with a cheaper driver than the th900.
(With exception of possibly the McIntosh MPH1000)
This Klipsch looks to actually have a newer and possibly better driver than the th900.
Looks like the Dennon departure from using Fostex, finally woke them up .

Oh wow that explains to me why it sounded a bit like a t1 & polite hd800 combined, ha
Very polished but too polite IMO.

The fostex drivers all have more solidity and power to me.
So I think the klipsch will do well.

Good things are worth the wait. Very good things. Like good enough to make me pee in my pants.

^Goddamnitall if that doesn't mean I've got something else to consider when I eventually upgrade cans.

*sigh* Looking forward to measurements and subjectives XD

Do you want a really bassy sound? Then go Klipsch. Do you want something more akin to the HD600/650 or Elear? Then go Aeteur.

How did they keep designing the headphone with constant feedback from the community through the entire process and still end up with such poor tuning is beyond me.

no idea. yet here's a hint that they all weren't in tune on various fronts:
while sitting for a listen at RMAF, one Klipsch guy was really proud of the antique wood boxing and "analog type" switches in their Heritage amp. when I asked about the DAC inside, he was excited to exclaim it was a Sabre chip.
when I asked "why is that a good thing? Sabre is rarely done well." he was mystified. no reply.

    such poor tuning?

Why because it is not for you?

It is for some people. Why do people think that everything has to be tuned one way? Sometimes if it is not for you it is for someone else.

If their goal was v-shaped, then they did a good job. So if they approached the community and asked for advice on tuning a v-shaped headphone then where they ended up is not bad at all.

To be fair, Klipsch had some major PR stumbles that put off quite a few people who were initially interested in the headphones that were not related to the tuning of the headphones (increasing the price at the last second, letting @musiqlovr go after he had put so much effort into this headphone). If you check out the thread here and the Head-fi thread, there were a good number of people who said that they wouldn't touch the HP-3 after what Klipsch pulled.

Also, @musiqlovr had mentioned in another thread that this headphone was meant to be the first in a series of higher-end headphones. There was a long-term vision to bring Klipsch into the high-end headphone market, and this was the first of several models. Maybe there would have been other headphones with a more neutral tuning to complement the HP-3's, but Klipsch apparently decided to nix that plan.

For a company like Klipsch, there’s probably a bigger market they’re aiming for than the “community”. The way they abandoned the lower priced models and kind of entered the market half assed in the end probably hurt them.
