Yes. But this is the "Theory on new Schiit" thread. Are we setting ourselves up for disappointment/dissatisfaction? Maybe. But this thread's sole existence is based around hype - i.e. getting excited about things that may or may not happen. I don't see anybody proclaiming anything too unrealistic, yet.

Premature heavy breathing is a given. Just be glad nobody is shooting jizz out of their nipples yet...

Can anyone explain why the multi-bit is so great? What is DS as well?

BURRITO FILTER IS CLOSED FORM. MUCH LESS LOSS OF PHASE AND TIME DOMAIN SHIFTS.

Ha ha, epic caps lock @Psalmanazar. :headbang:Schiit should post that answer in their FAQ. It's frank and parsimonious, just like their own replies.

I hope they squeeze in a discrete analog stage for the Bifrost Multibit or better yet use the more accurate Yggdrasil chips. A mini Yggdrasil in a Bifrost Multibit is the dream.

This does not fit the description of the Manhattan project as described by Jason and Mike. Not even close.

I'm very curious about the multibit sound now. Has anyone been able to compare Bifrost Multibit to 4490frost? I wonder why some people prefer 4490 even though R2R is supposed to be superior.

Schiit supposedly had to modify the analog section of the Bifrost to fit the multibit section (DSP+some military-grade DAC) because the Bifrost case ran out of space. Which is weird since they're now supposedly releasing multibit in the much smaller Modi case. Schiit magic at work here. If they can do it for Modi, look out for Bifrost Multibit 2 with upgraded analog stage.

Does anyone find it ironic that Head-fi's top front page link right now is about the most expensive DAC in the world and auditioning some ridiculous headphone system, while Schiits announcement of the least expensive Multibit DAC yet looms?

If they do a modi R2R I won't be surprised if it's stripped down to its bare essentials. Meaning no closed form filter and no discrete output section. Sort of like the Soerkris DAC.

    There's 2 sides to a PCB.

Plus the transformer is external in the modi, which saves quite a bit of room for electronics.

For the Bifrost they had to make a decision between a discrete output or the closed form filter. I don't see why that would be different for a Modi MB. On top of that the Modi still needs to have a power supply on the PCB even if the transformer is a wall wart.

Yes, our very own @The Alchemist has done a comparo and you can find that thread in the DAC section IIRC.
