I'm not sure but your guess looks very likely IMO.

Can't believe how noisy the pi3 is, when using it's built in wifi, when the song is buffering you can hear ton's of static thru headphones. It goes away the instant network traffic stops. That's just the audio bandwidth, sure it's noisy up in the spdif Mhz freq. also! (I need to get a scope).

Have you tried using a wifi dongle to compare? My Pi2 uses one (no built in wifi on that model) and it is dead quiet.

What's that unpopulated PCB you got back there?

Sure I did, noise is still there, slightly quieter. I'm testing them all (pi's), then testing ways to eliminate it. (grounds, LPS, etc.)

I'll post more later & will let you know re: the pi2

    A dual 3.3V/5V LT3042 LPS board.

    HifiBerry Digi+ Pro introduced:
    • 2 separate oscillators for 44.1 and 48kHz provide the optimal clock frequencies for all sample rates
    • gold-plated RCA connector
    • I2S output connector (soldering necessary)
    • you can power the 5V part of the circuit and the 3.3V part of the circuit from an external power supply (soldering necessary)
    • you can add a BNC connector (soldering necessary)

Now he advertises the possibility of powering the board separately with a 3,3v and a 5v... He didn't seem so fond of this possibility judging by what he answered to me. Still he hasn't provided the chance to break the power by a jumper or an onboard regulator (which can provide great sound without spending too much money like in the speed2). Hope he has made a better work with grounding than with digi+. That product product was as good as the power supply you threw at it.

Also AES\EBU would have been nice. I was not in love with the idea but since I tried it there's no coming back.

I wonder what clock did he use... ndk, Xpresso or what else?

And just when I'm ready to start messing with the Pi after a few months of it being turned off, it appears the wifi dongle is more or less dead. Recognized as being plugged in but can't do anything to bring up wlan0. Time to shell out another $10...

Anyone have positive experience with latest build of Volumio 2?

This board needs new drivers for the 44/48 clock selection, just like the SPD2. Do you guys think they (@Michael Kelly, Dan) worked together, will they be compatible?

    Did get one ordered.

I did just install the latest build and it works fine and sounds great with the Digi + and RPi2.

Now with the the Digi + Pro what potential sonic benefits are there? Less jitter?

Looks like it's everything we've already done to the digi+, except the new dual clocks (not using the PLL), probably same as SPD2 at how the WM8804 is configured. Haven't found any noise or ps jitter measurements yet on hifiberry's site--

Compared to a stock digi+, and utilizing the separate 5V and 3.3V -- huge. As to the jitter on the original digi+ it's measured at 50ps or worse (WM8804 spec).

Hard to say on jitter re: new board. Dan at hifiberry has not talked about it yet, should at least be better than 50ps however. (But that's just local jitter on the board/pi)

I apologize if this question is dumb, but if I am not planning on upgrading the power supply nor have any soldering experience then the Digi + (non pro) should work fine for me, right?

It lacks a local regulator and if one doesn't plan to spend money on a good PSU it makes a huge difference.
Plus it lacks a jumper to break the power and require some manual work to do it (I guess nothing too hard though).

Yeah still very DIY, did you ever run the Digi+ with decoupled 3.3? Don't think you did...

Anyway Dan did start a thread:

    https://support.hifiberry.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/207749389-HiFiBerry-Digi-Pro-beta-test

Also, I let the piCorePlayer guys know about the driver, linux 4.4.19+ will be in next release (3.0x)

OK cool you did :D (guess I actually did know that) -- been awhile everyone sidetracked on the SPD2 thread, which some of us still do not have to test, grrr...:(
