Anyone try the Jot with a PMx2? Based on what I'm reading, that combo might sound pretty good. I have a PMx2 and I'm thinking JoMimby, which is what I'm hoping to try at RMAF and !CanJam. I would love to hear any impressions if anyone has tried that combo, or close to it.

Keep the new-selfie-profile-pic every three days going. Can't get enough of that face.

In other news, I came across a pretty amazing local estate sale with some serious mega-buck Stereophile type enormous amps. I had the pleasant realization that Jotun could function as a very affordable preamp and phono stage if I actually win an auction for cheap. Thanks, Schiit!

I don't have a Jot, but I did bring my PMx2's to the Schiit Show 2 and then again to the last SBAF meet and listened to the Jot with the PMx2's both times. (Of course, Alex has also heard the Jot with PMx2's. You could ask him what he thought.)

I think the Jot worked really well with the PMx2's. Since I find the PMx2's to be a little less bright than I like, the Jot actually paired well since the Jot is anything but laid back and seems a little brighter than say a Rag. While the PMx2's are pretty efficient, the Jot has lots of power to support the bass of the PMx2's.

The PMx2's actually sounded similar to the Utopia's to me. And since the PMx2's are pretty revealing of it's source, it's a matter of preference whether the Rag or the Jot sounds better.

There was someone else at the SBAF meet that also heard the PMx2's on the Jot. I can't remember who it was.

Anyway, you should ask Alex what he thought of the Jot.

My jotenheim and Modi Multibit arrive tomorrow. I'm really excited, but also a little worried about not being home to sign for the package. Having to pick it up on monday would suck. Maybe I just skip calc and stay home ;)

You can often have them rerouted to a local location for pickup (for USPS that's a post office, which is more limited in hours, but for FedEx or UPS it is likely better).

I agree. This is another fantastic pairing. Alex has done what he could to reduce the lower mid distortion of the PM1, but the Jotunheim has such clean output that it pushes past that and also provides some needed extra oomph.

That was the plan, but fedex doesnt let me for whatever reason. Tried to register for the fedex delivery manager so i could tell them to hold it for me, but it refused to work .After a few attempts a message came up saying that I had exceeded the number of registration attempts and that I should wait a few days before trying again. It didn't even get to the validation part of signing up so I have no idea what went wrong.

I tried the same thing with my Jotun and it didn't work. I think Schiit prevents fedex from doing that.

I didnt have to sign for mine, they just got left at the door. You should be alright. I used FedEx for the Joti and USPS Priority for Modibit.

funnily enough, i expressed my XLR connectors to mod my 650s cable, and they were supposed to arrive saturday, but I wasnt there, so my 7 dollars of connectors didnt get left on the porch since they required a signature, but my 250 dollar modibit did haha Alas, i had to wait till monday to go retrieve my connectors to mod the cable.

It was liveable but it seemed a little peaky in the treble to me. BW had better synergy. HD650 is awesome with Joti. They just click.

In the era of new challengers to HD6X0 it's great to finally find some SS amps that can drive them really well...

    Actual advice solicitation time:

I listen to a mix of emo (insert jokes here), alt-rock (from Vampire Weekend to Fiona Apple), classical / baroque (Bach, Beethoven, some madrigals), some hip hop. Out of these two options, which is a better all-rounder? I haven't collected data on how the 650 works across the genre spectrum. I know the 800 is good at some of this stuff, but out of Ragnarok I didn't like it with more modern stuff. Does Mjolnir 2 broaden its usefulness? How's 650 w/ the classical stuff?

I'm overanalyzing, maybe, because the thing I really want to try (Elear) isn't immediately available.

The 650 is a genre master IMO, the only thing it will struggle with is anything requiring super low bass extension. That being said, I'm listening to some Archy Marshall with my stock 650/Jodie/Modi Multibit right now and it seems to have better bass impact/slam than any other amp I've tried them with (haven't listened to them on the Rag in a while though).

I just tried out my HD800S with the Jodie, immediately got bored, and went back to my 650 (and I don't think it's the Jodie's fault). I'll have an Elear in this afternoon and should be able to provide some notes over the weekend.

Good to know. I think I'm scratching the 800 off the list for good.

Currently have the Elear loaner and it would work well for some genre's and less so for others. The mid dip is real, and the accentuated bass is real. I am still having a bit of trouble adjusting the the Elear (as others have noted in that thread), but can see many positive traits. I still prefer the HD650, but it is a bit more laid back. If you like a more forward presentation Elear might be what you are looking for. The dip in the mids might make the emo dudes crying about their high school crushes not noticing them a bit hollow though ( I kid, I kid, used to listen too).

Another perfect pairing: Paradox Slants. Handles those T50rp drivers like there's no tomorrow.

Actually, I'd say the gungnir multibit > jotunheim > slants is the closest I'll get to an endgame closed rig until someone makes a true r10 successor. No, Ether C, LCD-XC, etc need not apply.

One thing to note, like all T50rp mods, the slants still maintain some midrange distortion and you're resolution capped when stacked against the high end dynamics, but the tuning is just spot f'ing on with these things. I really enjoy it.

Once I figure out what I'm doing next and I no longer sit in a locked down building, I'll bring it to work so you can take a listen.

Not yet, but based off Marv's impressions I suspect I'll remain uninterested. I'll give it a fair shot but let's see if it actually encourages a purchase from me.

Maybe this means my lowly Alpha Dogs would do well with the Jotunheim; I hate to ask, but if any of you have heard both, does the Jotenheim embarrass the Oppo HA-1?
