Sure. Hopefully this is cool with the SBAF mods. I'm not trying to whip up a storm between the sites or anything. Judging by the PMs I'm getting from Jude, I'm pretty sure he's reading this thread.

    This is Vincent, owner Totaldac.
I was not supposed to talk here but being attacked I have to give my version.
I don't understand why romaz spends so much efforts trying to destroy Totaldac.
He bought a Totaldac DAC, he had 14days to test it, he liked it (although changed his mind several times), he decided to keep it. Then a few weeks ago he decided to sell it without telling a single word about it to me.
No message about that. Obviously he sold it as second hand so he lost money. So now it seems he wants like a revenge.
His way to communicate is not understandable, he could have talked about it with me and we could have changed the type of DAC of I could have taken the DAC back and refund the money.
I allow refund for 14 days, it doesn't mean that I will never accept a few weeks later. I am not like he imagined.
So he decided that Totaldac was a burglar before he started any communication with Totaldac about his problem.
    So that's his big mistake.

Now he spends his time explaining that the Dave DAC is better than a Totaldac DAC, clearly to attack Totaldac. Some people think it is better, some other of my customers with truly very high end system had the complete opposite opinion.
But each can have his opinion, no problem.
Something else that I don't understand, the company Chord let this guy attacking Totaldac wherever he can, talking like a Chord salesman, in several forums. It makes a strange feeling about the company Chord, they should think about it.
Now about Voxativ. I still believe that they talked badly about Totaldac as private discussion, and again romaz repeat everything negative about Totaldac on forum, not fair at all.
In fact Voxativ is upset and Holger wanted a revenge because we tried another amplifier an evening during the Munich High End show. This amplifier was vastly better than the Voxativ monoblocs according to all the audience except Voxativ people.
I even decided to use this other amplifier as reference and still keep Voxativ speakers. I will also use it for next hifi show in Paris in November and this made Holger crazy and he ejected Totaldac from their distributor list (just like the previous french distributor, like Josound etc...).
So Holger didn't want a better DAC, first he wanted a non-Totaldac DAC. I understand, I also wanted a non-Voxativ speaker, which I have now, but on my side without saying bad things about Voxativ speakers.

Picky, no bass.. Well, listen to Voxativ preamp and amp with their standard tubes and judge yourself what this was coming from. Don't expect reading it in review, this preamp and monoblocs have never been reviewed, whereas Totaldac DACs have been reviewed tens of times all over the world.
Holger should ask Romaz to remove this private (hope so but the photo doesn't confirm) comments.
Note that Voxativ doesn't have a special DAC from totaldac. It is just a standard d1-six-tube. They never had a special DAC version, never.

Just read that thing with Vincent, Romaz, etc. DAVE vs. totalDAC. Sounds like it comes down to synergy or resolution (compared to vinyl), at least for the model in question.

The Voxactiv drivers do sound peaky and may have some hardness. It's simply not possible for an efficient 8" cone to not have treble peaks. As a driver manufacturer, Voxactiv should provide measurements. I have nothing against Voxactiv as I love their drivers, but I am also not going to be stupid and put my head into the sand.

FWIW, @drfindley has heard the totalDAC d12. He said it was the closest thing to vinyl that he's heard in a DAC.

I don't feel Vincent's request to remove Romaz' comments are reasonable though, even though the uninitiated may not realize the strong possibility of synergy issues in this case or that Romaz does come off as slightly too authoritative or willing to cite others in light of show impressions and unfamiliar music (at least in that specific post).

Vincent should have the right to state the last two concerns I mentioned, but dragging ex-partners into it is too much drama.

Seems to me they should remove both or neither. Problem is, the Chord sycophants probably spammed the report button on Vincent's post, the red bat-phone rang at the moderator's house and the post was insta-deleted without looking at th exchange as a whole.

Well going back a few more pages, I don't see what the problem is. There's a good dialogue going on between paul and Romaz with both of them bringing up the same concerns I brought up. Was there more that was posted that set Vincent off?

As far as fanboys, I just don't bother reading what they have to say.

So this was the paragraph that was censored:
I thought it is pretty common for audio sellers/shills/marketing folks to critique/discredit other manufacturer's products? Ifi did piss on Schiit's r2r design and Schiit also criticized# many others including totaldac resistor design(though not directly).

The problem is manufacturers who solely make super low-volume high-end gear. One bad review, and your yearly income drops by half. It's not uncommon for these types of manufacturers to aggressively scan for less than stellar reviews and try to refute them. Heck, it's not uncommon for medium volume medium-end gear to do this either? (Those from Changstar will remember Mytek - and the Mytek guy was at least smart enough to completely avoid us after Luis rebutted his initial post.) Unfortunately, the fact is, not everybody is going to like everything, and gear that sounds good in one system may not sound as good in another. Fanboys aside, it looks like Vincent overreacted. I don't think Romaz crapped on totalDAC at all.

The sad fact is that HF moderators are too stupid, or really too lazy, to see through all this and try to calm nerves in diplomatic manner rather than citing Starfleet Regulation 208.32.9801 on member species not attacking each other for food sources. I cite Jude's response:

Once again, we're looking into all posts that were made that may have led up to this. This only came to our attention today, and we're dealing with it as best we can in between shooting two videos today. Again, even now, I have no idea (in the context of this discussion) who all the member of the trade parties are, how they were/weren't related, etc. We're trying to sort through this now.

Typical Jude BS, which essentially translates into this: I don't give shit when I have to give a shit. These videos I'm shooting are going to help make me more money, and meet my obligations to people who pay me money, so they are much higher priority. And I have no clue what is going on in my forum.

Did someone ever tell Vincent that he needs to pay up first like what Chord has done?

I suspect there are tiers of sponsorship. Just watch how Jude promotes things, and you'll see the tiers...

Couple grand a year should get you in the door. $10k gets you a premium membership with access to the red hotline. $1000 per table at the CanJams. As with anything, it's ultimately what you make of it, rather than what you pay. For example, Jason's blog was a master stroke of genius.

It's actually not a bad deal; but only if you know how to make use of it. Most of these companies have no clue how to leverage New Media.

I use killer as a positive superlative, even my pal's teeny IEM store in Singapore made back that initial payment literally overnight with the exposure boost alone.

Your lives are 30% worse because you visit HF. Mine is 2% worse for entering this thread.

HF is like the trashy soap opera of the hobby.

Hmm I was told by a MOT that the Canjam London tables were multiple thousand pounds. Whatever, these Canjams must be a nice money-spinner.

Hey, SBAF-Jam could fund the loaner program for years to come!

Sadly, the spin control and suppression of dissent/critical opinion, which is a major part of the deal, might be a bit harder to manage here

The funny thing is you guys think I'm kidding. I genuinely think my life is significantly better because of Jude's grumpy bitter changing my email login so I couldn't access the site then changing it back so he could pretend I wouldn't notice.

He did the same to @Marvey . He didn't want to ban anyone who would be seen as a martyr.

But this is all off topic. Back to my original assertion: my life is genuinely better without that place. There's enough useful, thoughtful news sites out there and great discussion here. I waste so much less of my life sifting through garbage trying to figure out the salient points in a thread these days.

Well our ex-buddy @Rb2016 believes you can buy an authentic 2TB(yes TeraBytes, not terabits) USB flash drive off ebay for $13:

Edit: He just mentioned about Moore's Law and thumb drive... Hmm... Moore's Law doesn't apply low price into the equation I am sure. And didn't he check out the 1 star reviews in his own amazon link?
