I did mention earlier that "can jam" and "circle jerk" did have the same initials. Difficult for me to see on HF using CJ as a shortcut for can jam without suppressing a laugh.

Great comment @Griffon - I believe this is the "OMG sounds different, must be good!" phenomenon. A fundamental obstacle to overcome in becoming a trusted reviewer.

That's why I haven't done official reviews yet. I don't have the knowledge or measurement gear to start swaying people's opinions by the masses. I stick to short and to the point sound impressions followed up with a big IMO/YMMV.

As to visiting head-fi, I still post a lot over there. While it's rather difficult to navigate the hype and BS, there is still some good posters and pretty cool people to talk with. I hangout in the hd650 thread a bunch which has basically become a lounge of sorts. Also check the classifieds often.

I come here or seek out other trusted reviewers when trying to find real info on new headphones.

I need them CSD plots and measurements man.

Well said Mystic. I feel the same way, although I'm getting closer to writing my first review. It is a fairly challenging task, however, I would like to review a couple of my favorite toys. The only thing I feel comfortable recommending is basshead IEMS. Hard to screw that up. :D

Somebody on Head-Fi has this as their signature:
"The biggest evidence that God exists is the fact that the o2odac and the Sennheiser HD650 exist. Even if Jesus didn't die for our sins, Nwavguy brought the greatest dac/amp of all time to this world, and paid the price with his life. Do not be misled by the schiity ways of this world."

I definitely appreciate the objectivist view and it has influenced how i see audio. But i always wonder if the people that think the o2 is as good as it gets have tried other components. Or just read a bunch of articles and then listened to the o2 and came to that conclusion. Subjectively.

Also saw this little gem and got a good laugh on whats been a crummy 24 hours.

Goodness, I actually had two conversations there this week! One on the unpleasant experience of hearing loss, and another on your [American] curious usage of the term "2-Channel," which I didn't get an answer to here, except from mr Koth Ganesh by PM. Anyway, I get that one now. it's weird, but I get it.

Aye. I will say, I have an ODAC/O2 combo unit - and for the price, it is hard to beat. But there are very many components that outperform it - both objectively in measurements, and to my ear. Does make for a nice, relatively low cost, small unit to take with me though. I prefer it over the Chord Mojo, for instance. But does it hold up to my big Burson? or even the Yulong D200 - it struggles to keep up.

I do still visit headfi - there are some threads there that have collected so much knowledge over the years, that's hard to give up. And the size of the community means lots of new information coming in all the time.

But I'm definitely liking the vibe here. :)

I'm a member of HF that got the infamous "dont mention SBAF".

I was completely flabbergasted. I'm used to people doing stupid shit. I'm used to forums having their own weird rules and etiquette... But never to this kind of extent. Another HF member even warned me beforehand in a PM that my post would get deleted and that I would get a warning PM not to mention this place. I didn't believe him. It was too bizarre. Too juvenile for a professional website. I would expect something like that from stormfront or some other website for psychos.

But it all happened exactly as he said. What bothers me most is that the strategy doesn't even make sense. If you're trying to prevent people from being exposed to something, the last thing you do is tell them not to talk about it. Havent they seen Fight Club? The inevitable result is that the people you reprimand will just get more curious about the subject in question, like teens told not to drink or have sex.

So it can't be that. The people that run HF can't be that mind bogglingly stupid. So it must be some sort of petty jealousy/rivalry thing right? But dont rivalries thrive on discussion of the "enemy"?

The only conclusion I can come to is it's like a five year old sticking his fingers in his ears going "lalalalalalalalalaaaaaa!!!"

Regardless, I just had to come see what the boogeyman was all about.

I know how you feel, just today I wanted to link someone on HF confirmation of the Modi2U update and I hesitated to link to SBAF knowing it would be frowned upon. Decided to PM the user instead. Kind of ridiculous.

Thanks. I have a pretty modest setup. LH Labs 1G USB cable/Bifrost4490/Uptone Regen/Morrow MA1 rca's/Denon AV Receiver/Beyer T90 that I built slowly over the past few months but it sounds great to me.

I've lurked here a few times when researching stuff but was never compelled to post until HF revealed itself to be something out of George Orwell novel. At this point I have no desire to post there again. I had a pretty strongly negative, visceral reaction to the recent event. I used to do a lot of posting on movie forums and that community isn't much different, with paid shills, snobby/elitist BS, petty forum etiquette... One site I wont mention is nothing but a sloppy blowjob festival in every article talkback, agreeing with the writer's opinion (a guy who was a hated forum member of another site, a notrious shill now with a legion of yes man zombie followers) prety much turned me off to the whole thing.

I suppose the internet is a direct reflection of society only with the ugliness of anonymity thrown in.

LOL!! So good, @CEE TEE Ceeeee Teeeee!!! Twisted Sister made an appearance on Sirius 38 on the way to work this morning. Loved it! Hmm, I wonder if I still have my Stay Hungry shirt!!

I need to dial up some White Snake now... Here I go again on my own, going down the only road I've ever known!

    Whoa!

We can tell you... It's just a few letters to type on any keyboard...

    It's what happens afterwards.

First the sky starts to darken. Nothing out of the ordinary. Then, it starts to get really black. Strangely black, with hints of purple. Like the weirdest sunset you ever saw. Then the red/orange lightening begins... the wind starts howling.... Shrieking...

At that point the real fear grips you, because you get this deep realisation that it's personal.

You can survive. You have a chance. It's absolutely vital that you do not even think about double-blind tests. Or Muslims. Or.... Or, I don't know what else: Better maintain a totally blank mind until the sky clears. Hearing the first bird sing again is the all clear signal: the world is safe again. At least, this time.

Sent this to the mod I got the PM from:

"Such an over the top policy got me curious about that-which-must-never-be-mentioned (I wasn't a member, only vaguely heard about it) that I decided to join! Seems like a wonderfully thriving community.

Thanks! Without you guys I would've never bothered!"
