No. I do the same thing when I see Indians speaking in hindu then they start talking to me in hindu. Yes, I'm actually half Indo but I'm 100% 'Merica Babyyy. They get pissed when I tell them I speak only English. They also get pissed when I'm with my white GF in an Indian restaurant. A lot of the first gen are so f'ing racist.
No, I look either Indo, Hindu or South American and I am used to people assuming I am one of them. Thing is I am Dutch. If I do not understand you, I simply do not. If you prefer your own language fine. Just do not expect mutual understanding or good service when you keep speaking your native tongue in say "Amsterdam, London or New York." Just saying...
If it's just weirdness about encountering an unexpected language in a certain context: not really. Stuff like that does stand out, and regardless of what people's instinctive actions are it's what's done consciously that determines character.
Living in a brown world, I always get taken aback by seeing white people, and even more so, black people. That can even include looking in the mirror.
Weirdest thing was first trip to London after several years, first thought was "This place is full of foreigners." Second thought was.... Oh, people the same as me!
