Not recommended. I also went that way before, but good transformers are NEITHER (1) light (and small) NOR (2) cheap. Don't bother anything below 200 or so.
Thanks and fair enough. This is totally an experiment, which is why I made this a profile post rather than adding it to the modius thread. Actually what I was looking for was empty XLR/RCA boxes to contain cinemag xformers. Worst case, I salvage the connectors, use bud boxes and good xformers in a better DIY solution.
I have the ISOMAX with the Jensens and I prefer the single ended out from the Modius. It's good enough where I don't know if it's worth converting unless you have very good transformers, which probably isn't worth it for a $200 DAC
@PTS yes the general idea is to properly feed a balanced DAC output to single ended HP amp inputs. Given that I'm starting with an inexpensive commodity solution, I don't expect great results. But I do hope to hear something and to learn what to listen for when making this sort of conversion, So more for fun, learning and ear training than any thought that I'll have a magic solution.
@Melvillian, thanks for the suggestions. Of course it is silly to spend much on conversion for the sake of squeezing a bit more out of a $200 DAC. But if later I'm interested in say a CONVERT-2, I'd want to know that I could send its output to my favorite HP amp without audible distortion. The modius may have prompted me to think and act on this, but it is not the end goal.
@JK47 It's the PC-2XR, I think it's 4:1 @MichaeLeroy I'm curious too for higher end systems. I hadn't seen your second post about how it's more of an experiment. Let us know how it turns out.
