This Saturday I got another first row centre seat for Brahms' double concerto and Beethoven's Eroica!
Feels weird but live front seat is as exhilirating and exhausting as Utopia.
Interesting. It really depends on the concert hall, as no gear yet surpasses the best halls. Still, we're quite fortunate to be alive today. (Though there have been some trade offs: the loss of widespread amateur musicianship).
Please be careful to wear only cottons and other natural fibres for live music. Even a trace of polyester causes enough static to considerably raise the noise floor, even in the best of auditoria. This is something that the architect/engineers could not design for.
@Claritas yeah, crazy to think that at one time, if ypu were really determined, you MIGHT be lucky enough to go see, say, Beethoven's fifth performed. And pretty much forget about hearing it again after that.
@Claritas - live is the gold standard I agree. I can't not compare the live screechy soprano voice with a recorded screechy soprano voice. It is so similar at times when heared close up. From far away it's much more subdued as expected.
It is indeed a beautiful ornate piece of architecture from the Baroque era.
I don't know how on earth I was thinking about tonality, staging, imaging, details and those impressive dynamics when listening to the soprano, singing a wonderful Mozart aria, just a few metres in front of me! This hobby can play tricks with your brain.
I really need to attend more live events, just listen to music and reset my mind.
... it got me into observing room effects such as reflections and resonance. Sometimes moving just one seat can drastically affect the sound. Moving nearer or closer to walls, angle to speakers, is the big thing.
But in western concert halls and theatres, you've probably booked a specific seat and don't have the freedom to wander around
