Had someone try to sell me a Sonett 2 last year that he didn't own. I was even able to track down the actual owner on HF. He was suprised when I asked him if he was trying to sell me a Sonett.

May I ask what you use then?

I ask people to pay by google wallet /gpay, venmo, Apple wallet, or other transfer. I say this in the listing. So far people have been fine with it.

Looks like Google wallet has zero protections. All transactions final. Think I may use this whenever selling to non-friends from now on.

Previously my boss had a big TV order and a ship to address, which after getting delivered turned out to be some sort of empty lot. Lost a whole bunch of money on that when the charge back happened.

I will google street view anytime I ship to make sure the address isn't some random abandoned building.

I am hearing more people get scammed on head-fi lately. Hope this is NOT an uptrend.

I'm sorry, did you just say you're hoping more people get scammed?

It might not be a pleasant forum but nor is it nice to wish misery on people Jerry :/ unless you meant "hope this isn't an uptrend"!

Grazie! Sorry, I was unkind in thinking you actually meant that— feel free to shit on my posts next time I make a typo, haha.

Which of the 3 major couriers (FedEx, UPS, USPS) offers better protection against a potential scammer?

I've been very lucky (never lost a penny) but despite this, any non-in person transactions like these have always made me very nervous until completed. I just thought I was being paranoid, as I am not a very trusting person anyway, and have always just assumed everybody was trying to rip me off. I am glad that all of the gear I own that would be worth selling I intend to have buried with me. Sorry about the hassle Ice-man, but thanks for sharing it here.
