Reconnected with this beauty. So tuneful yet abstract, layered and mysterious but so direct and powerful.

Last great album before the world fell apart?

Yardbirds during the brief time that Jimmy Page and Jeff Back were in the same line-up as duel leads. They also had a spot in a movie with Jeff Beck doing his best Who-smash impression on his poor guitar and Vox amp.

One of the most audacious releases in rock history. Unjustly derided by many, this freewheeling album is too much for some, but when you get it—you GET it.

IMO his old gang with Roy (Futureman) Wooten, Victor Wooten, and Howard Levy was far and away the best among the many iterations of Bela's groups.

I always put something like this on the television in the late evenings when I need to turn my brain off. My LG OLED makes for a lovely aquarium.

The Commander Thinks Aloud tonight. I can't listen to this very often, too much of an emotional burden. The song is about the Space Shuttle Columbia.

    That's a viola, not a violin.

    Beautiful music!

I am picturing this music playing behind an otherwise soundless microphotographic video of the insides of some uber-expensive Swiss watch.

This is the first, and possibly best of Donald Fagen's solo albums. I played the grooves off this record.

It brings back vivid memories of trips to Italy in the '80s. We'd go in some fancy clothing store in Rome or Florence, and invariably, one or both of the following were playing on the big speaker systems: NIGHTFLY; and pretty much anything early by Louis Armstrong ... making those stores a conceivable version of heaven.

Gorgeous new art-pop album by Norwegian singer Jenny Hval. A perfect springtime soundtrack:
