Any chance of a loaner for a SBAF tour? I happen to have both an A1 and A2 (OG) at home now and would very much appreciate the opportunity to compare all three. (I'm trying to finalize my "end game" system now so I can shut the door on additional hardware purchases.)

    LOL, yeah, yeah, I know…;)

Still, I’m comforted by the fact that I actually have stuck with my end-game headphones/amp setup (HD800 SDR, Grado RS1i, & HD650 KISS mod, each running into a Zana Deux Super with an RCA 5691 red base) and haven’t bought anything new on that front since 2018.

Also, uh, my wife made it clear that enough is enough….

There’s a chance that this MIB flavor could be a limited run, tho, if it does well, I’d be surprised if it didn’t find itself a permanent spot.

I mention that only because if it does end up being limited, there’s a chance it’d be unavailable for purchase by the time a loaner made its rounds.

Despite that, a loaner would be cool. I love reading everyone’s varied impressions on great gear.

    Limited production? Trial run?

I'm looking for an exit from the upgrade train. This looks like it could be it.

Argh, looks like next week for MIB. Production delay from the pcb house. Figure Halloween/Nov 1 availability.

Thanks again for getting this done, Jason. Halloween will be a good time for a pyrate DAC.

Had some more follow-up questions after re-reading the above. I remembered in the original LIM/MIL thread that you created these super helpful charts:

    (source)

    (source)

    (source)

I think it's pretty easy to triangulate where MIB sits on the first chart based on the new comparison chart you shared earlier in this thread (quoted above). Wondering where you'd place the MIB in the second chart with respect to treble f*kery and how you'd characterize its perceived tonal response in the third chart. I see the MIB is described as having a "Neutral/down" tonal signature, so does this mean its perceived treble response is lower than both A2/OG and A1/GS?

Subjectively, does the MIB sound less aggressive and incisive overall than the A2/OG? A little more rounded overall (including re: HF transients), but not to the level of LIM? That's what I take from the HF transients and dynamics ratings in the revised chart from this thread. Now that I finally hooked up my DSHA-3FN to my Yggdrasil A2/OG, I think I'm starting to see what others have mentioned re: the combo of that gear being a little too aggressive with Utopia. Seems like MIB may be a better match than A2/OG as it is less "zippy" in the highs, a little less dynamic, and may have lower perceived treble response than the A2/OG.

It's too bad that we can't get seem to get the LIM tonal balance / frequency response but with the MIB's strengths in clarity, plankton, layering/separation etc.

Do you have any idea whether this would still be the case with MIB? Curious whether 176.4 and 192 kHz data would not go through the filter, as I occasionally listen to PCM-converted SACD and hires Qobuz stuff through my Yggdrasil A2.

@schiit Since you've hinted the OG flavor may be no longer available soon, will that happen in conjunction with the introduction of the MIB flavor?

@schiit is the MIL-B going to be a staple, long term product available for the foreseeable future, or is it a limited run and if so how many units/time?

    Thanks

    Here you go:

    upload_2023-10-31_10-53-7.png

The highs on MIB are less incisive than A2/OG. A2/OG I can find prickly with the Mjolnir 3 -> JAR600 setup. A2/OG is more marginally more energetic / MIB is marginally more sleepy. Note that MIB is also less thick/syrupy in the high-bass / low mids as the A2/OG is. Although MIB have a smidge of that NOS-like tonal density throughout (shades of UltraAnalog).

Is the bass as tight as the LIMs? And how would you compare it to the Modi Multibit 2's tonality/presentation?

Bass is just as articulate as the LIM.

MM2 is a bit brighter, tilted up. For example, my reference bedside rig: MIB->MJ3->JAR600 sounded slightly less bright than MM2->MJ3->JAR600. I actually brought the latter as a "transportable" system when I was up in San Antonio a few weeks ago. To compensate, I put the MM2 into NOS mode.

Woohoo! Any chance we could also get a notice here when the upgrade cards are available? I know earlier you mentioned they would be a few weeks out after the main DAC launch.

EDIT: Here's the Schiit Happened chapter on the MIB release: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/sch...lds-most-improbable-start-up.701900/page-8646

    EDIT #2:

    From the above:

    Your Chance at MIB

And so now you have another choice in the Yggdrasil flavor wars: Yggdrasil More is Better. It’s not an inexpensive DAC, clocking in at $300 more than Less is More. And, to start, we’re only selling complete DACs, but if you give us a few more weeks, we should have enough available for upgrade boards as well.

Is it for you? Maybe. I consider it the best all-around Yggdrasil.

Mike still likes LIM. Dave still likes OG. But OG is going away. The availability of the Analog Devices AD5791 isn’t confidence inspiring, and its price/performance is now very poor. So the future will be LIM or MIB. Both fantastic DACs. Both TI based. Your choice.

“Will there ever be a ‘More is More?’” someone will ask.

Of course, we’re still going to try to do an ultimate Yggdrasil. But there’s nothing ready for prime time yet. And, consider that if it’s ultimate, it may cost significantly more. (my emphasis added)

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy MIB, the latest iteration in the evergreen Yggdrasil.

I appreciate this info. I wonder why this is not listed in the specs on the site?

This will just open a can of worms for Schiit. Didn’t we just get some rando harping on how much better 8x, 16x, Nx would be based on personal experience (ahem, beliefs)?
