Hey mate, good link. So La Figaro is an offshoot of the DarkVoice guys, and it's rumored they've stopped production of the DarkVoice 336SE. I'm messaging the guy who used to own the La Figaro and DarkVoice and asking some questions, hopefully I get a response.

I'll still look around and do some more research on the others.

I've heard 3 of the 4 amps on your list and they're generally hot garbage compared to the Vali 2.

Honestly, in your shoes, I'd dump all of my gear except for a mobile headphone and buy the ModiBit, Vali 2 and one of the HD6XX cans. You are pissing away money tube rolling at this level and you have way too many headphones. How many do you listen to? You'd be happier with one or two better headphones than so many.

With regard to tubes, it's a masturbatory exercise to spend $$$ on tubes for these modest amps. Just run stock and buy a better amp with the $$$ later.

Edit: your upgrade path for HD6XX:

    DAC:
    1. Whatever you have on hand. If you have nothing, buy a used DAC for $80 or less that's pretty neutral like the modi 2 4490 or the geek out 450 (original). If you can live with it, use your damn HP out from your phone.

    2. ModiBit. GO2A if you need portability (make/buy a balanced cable in this case). I consider this the base case of what I'd spend actual $$$ on today. Anything lesser seems like a waste.

    3. Yggdrasil or Gungnir Multibit. The latter only of you won't feel like you have to upgrade to Gungnir Multibit later.

    Amps:

    1. Vali 2 (for now)

    2. NBM (I'd try to go straight to this)

    3. ZDS or Studio

Any intermediate upgrades are probably going to be very incremental at best and a downgrade at worst.

Personally, I could see myself settling with a ModiBit and NBM. The two are so ridiculously good for the price. Good to the point of being within spitting distance of the top rigs from not very long ago.

Hi I was wondering if anyone could recommend a free image hosting site/service. I have used some sites in the past that seem to lose the link after a bit of time, is this typical of all free image hosting services?

Try imgur. I can't find it in their terms of service, but Q&A sites like Quora imply that in 2015 imgur changed its policy from deleting images if not viewed within six months to retaining them indefinitely unless deletion is requested by the uploader or by a copyright owner.

Edit: @JBoogie, et al.: Per imgur's reply: "Images are retained as long as there is no DMCA takedown notice, or image removal request. We also review TOS breakage on a regular basis. Please be sure to not use imgur as a CDN (Content Delivery Network), more information can be found on our TOS page. We are always here to help if you have any other questions, comments or concerns."

Thanks for the reply! I'm happy with differing opinions, if you feel I'm about to make the wrong choice based on your experience (or other form of knowledge) then I'd be happy to receive feedback.

If I was being honest I'd say the ES700 for daily commute, the X2 for gaming, and the K7XX for music. The only headphone I don't listen to on a regular basis is my MS-1.

    Lol love the metaphor.

I'm still saving up on buying Senn HD6XX, but definitely will keep your upgrade path in mind when I go down that route, really appreciate you taking the time to write it out. Not familiar with a few terms though, I get GO2A n ZDS, what's NBM?

@Setzz you definitely don't need 3 headphones for home use. Sell the MS-1, someone on HF will probably buy it.
Also, between the AKG and X2, it seems like a choice between soundstage and bass? IIRC the X2 supposedly has decent soundstage but sounds warmer; either way there's overlaps and you can settle on one headphone for both gaming and music. (I used to have 2 for each, and it was just a waste of space. Eventually I realised that when I'm into a game having the widest soundstage doesn't matter.)

@zerodeefex is this the NBM? http://www.superbestaudiofriends.or...ight-blues-tube-transformer-coupled-amp.1091/

yah that's the well regarded NBM, @Hands liked it also.
recommending an impossible to purchase amp from Russia to a rando was rather sly.

Looking for advice on which direction to go next. Currently using modded HD650 balanced with Liquid Carbon and Gungnir Multibit. It's pretty great but people rave about how certain tube amps make the HD650 endgame. I'm mostly curious to see what I'm missing. I haven't really listened to any of my other headphones in a while. Only other one that gets occasional head time is carefully modded HE-6. It's got problems in the upper treble that are driver related and can't be fixed with mods only. All other headphones are in their boxes. I'll probably have a huge sale on all of my gear soon.

I'm waiting on the new Schiit stuff, a la Schiit show and new 2 channel gear. Other than that speakers are where I spend most of my listening time and it's been great. Little to no listening fatigue and tinnitus is much better. I'm not in a hurry since I want to make the best decision possible and be set for a while if not endgame.

Budget is around $1000 and I would be looking at buying around the end of the year unless something changes.

If you have adequate DIY skills, read up on the torpedo 3. Pretty cool amp, hybrid tube, spoken highly of by many with ears I trust. Once I have disposable income again, is my next curiosity.

I don't know how to stress this anymore but the bottle head crack and speedball upgrade is just amazing. I haven't heard the torpedo yet and can only recommend this setup over anything else I have heard.

Yeah, I'm just trying to get the most out of the HD650. Also, if it doubles as a tube preamp for speakers that would be awesome! I know Mjolnir 2 is perfect for that and would work with a balanced power amp. I'm just feel like MJ2 might not be best for HD650.

I was thinking as much, I might sell the MS-1 at some point, as I said I don't listen to it as much anymore. Thanks for the suggestion.

Holy hell, 2 for each!! Which ones did you have?

Notwithstanding, this may be a tougher sell for me. Whilst I don't mind the K7XX for gaming, it doesn't have the impact compared to the X2, and vice versa for X2 on music compared to the K7XX.

In any case I appreciate your feedback mate!

Whoop sorry I stated that wrong: I had 2 headphones, 1 for each purpose.
880 for games, 600 for music. I was an idiot wasting money and space.

Out of curiosity, I'm assuming the ones you tried are the DarkVoice, La Figaro and Little Dot, what did you not like about each of these? Thanks!

Really? That seems pointlessly laborious. Why are you opposed to just getting the Vali? It's small, single tube, confirmed to be good by a lot of people here, pre-outs, stacks with one of the best DACs <$1K...

There is one for sale on SNA.

    http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php/topic/109720-eoi-schiit-vali-2-pickup-only-syd-nb/

I could pick it up and send it on to you if you are interested...

OK, im thinking about buying some new closed headphones. Not sure what to get. Im looking for something a little brighter, like my Grado SR80e's. I find my modded T50RP's too boring.
    I could spend 200-400$.

Or should I just try modding the T50RP's for more trebble? I might just do that...

If you have the time and inclination to mod a t50rp, DO IT. This is a great regret of mine, that I didn't get the courage up to tinker with a t50 until right before my life became much busier. I finally gave my pieces to my brother (who then opened a restaurant and had a kid, and I think said pieces are just sitting under a pile of shit somewhere at this point)

I think the greatest thing you can do in this hobby is tinker / mod. Not just because "LOL its awesome!" but because you learn so much more about what transducers can do, and how enclosures change sound, etc. Like most fields, it makes you a much more competent consumer.
