nice man. i've been debating for a while whether to add a sub to my 2 channel system but have always worried about integration, phase issues, etc. maybe should reconsider...
Cheers mate. It's been a lot of work, probably 15 hours this week moving sub & speakers around to get rid of some pesky SBIR. Settled on sub pointed at the corner and seat moved forward slightly to bring up a null around 100hz & EQ'd down the resultant increase in LF.
Also had phase issues...sub set to 180 polarity helped a lot. Still got a 70hz cancellation but narrowed it down to -4dB across 5hz so it's not audible tbh. Applied a house curve similar to B&K but without the low bass drop off & it's sounding really good.
I was initially reluctant to do full range EQ. I focused on <300hz at first, but struggled to get it sounding balanced. Had a go at full range and woah, that's more like it. It's weird to listen and not hear any FR imbalance. Might take some getting used to!
Yeah, 2.1 setups can be a real pain in the arse to dial in (especially in small, squarish rooms) but if you're willing to put in the time and effort to get it right it's definitely worth it. Finally getting great results out of mine a year later. Not-wonky bass is fun.
