Sorta relevant: It was confirmed that this is the regular ol 99 Classic with a new coat of not-paint. I'm not super fond of the Mezes unless I go out of my way to break the seal on the pads (find the sound boomy, and I like bass), and even then it's still kinda congested sounding. Great for commutes though, as long as the cables aren't out of phase. Sturdier than I thought it'd be too.

HeadFi'ing yourself? No worries, you and others have done the same for me a lot :P

I was disappointed when I heard they were gonna be the same too. On the bright side, got confirmation from Meze that they'll be releasing new pads that are more in line with the Mk1 ones Tyll loved in his review— very much excited for those.

Definitely will! Probably gonna A/B them with the current ones and do standalone notes for the new set. Not much a fan of the current pads.

@Lyer25 Did you notice the Massdrop offering includes 2 sets of pads? "2 sets of ear pads: the stock pads used on the 99 Classics, plus an extra set with additional damping foam over the driver." Do either of those sound like the original ear pad offering?

Curious. Last I checked the original pads were just smaller in diameter— Meze made the pads larger to accommodate larger ears, but that's apparently what led to the boomier sound. Piling dampening over the driver might reduce bass on top of attenuating treble a bit. Haven't tried that yet and no spare material to play with now.
