For the best seal on my head I had to wear the cups kind of high to where my ears just touched the bottom of the pads. Play with height as well as front to back positioning. I also wore them either in the middle or forward to alleviate the treble

Aren't all 'phones somewhat position sensitive? I was disappointed with my HD600s, for both sound and comfort, until I got the right positioning.

I'd expect position sensitivity of the HD800s, given the driver angle built into their design. I think I wear mine like @cskippy. Any lower, they press on the jaw joint, which is very uncomfortable.

Few 'phones have such a huge opening for the ears. Yeah, moving them forward/back works as a real easy eq solution. I wear them pretty high too.

Actually, I don't think my ears are particularity big --- but apparently around-the-ear headphone manufacturers do.

I have a big head that causes minor problems with some models, not with Senns though. I don’t even know if my ears are small or large, maybe that means they’re average at most.

HD800 has been designed around a Nazi skull. So some people have massive leakage from back of the ears, like 1 cm openings. No wonder, they don't like em'.
