Many people only get 10-15 vacation days per year. 6 week vacation is a dream!

We get 160 hrs/year paid, but have to keep the total balance <= 120 or we lose what would accrue. That's "paid time off", so it covers sickness & vacations.

It helps to combine that with work holidays.

Mostly only teachers and students get that kind of time in the summer.

Yes they do. Only thing is it is unpaid. And most teachers take classes during part of the summer so they can get a raise. I took my last class 4 years ago. So you basically do it most of your career. And you pay the tuition. In some States you are required to have a certain number of units every 5 years or you lose your credential. So it’s nice in some ways.

Yeah I was a teacher for 12 years in the states. In Texas at least "most" teachers were definitely not taking summer college courses. Just a few workshops for the most part. That fulfilled the 5 year continuing ed hours, no college necessary.

In California we had workshops, but you didn’t get salary credit if the District paid for it. So lots of college extension courses was the fastest way to get to the top of the salary schedule and get your 5 year renewal.
Now I am off for life. :) I just got my TB test notification. Someone forgot to tell them I retired.
