I don’t mind it at all, but kind of bummed out that korean music gets generalized into just “Low-fi kpop” when we have a lot of music with a lot of soul and heart
oh I meant in the US and possibly other countries. It may be anecdotal and short-sighted but a lot of my encounters here have been that "korean music = kpop." Maybe I'm overthinking this
@monacelli Jo Sung Mo, Kim Bum Soo, Kim Kwang Seok, Kim Yeon Woo, M.C the Max, SeeYa, SG Wannabe, Fly to the Sky, Brown Eyed Soul, Kim Dong Ryul, Yurisanja. lmk what you think!
@tommytakis - sorry for off topic comment - your avatar picture is adorable. Did you used to have a white puppy as your avatar? (he was adorable also).
@tommytakis I was curious myself. 4 dogs and 2 cats (not to mention all the birds...), I went with Pikachu because he's been with me longest and I didn't want to offend the other pets by picking one of them, haha.
Also, K-pop is just more prolific internationally, like J-pop, American pop, or how in general traditional ballads are more for the consumption of locals than others.
I imagine some tourists here might know any number of local pop artists merely by virtue of how much airtime they all get, but I'd be surprised if they were very familiar with the Sunday music artists I listen to.
And yeah, that seems to be the general trend for pop music, but I feel like the stereotype is a bit stronger in America towards asian pop (Kpop, Jpop, etc). I'm actually quite happy and surprised @monacelli asked me for recommendations. I didn't think I would get much reception in SBAF in all places; just shows that we're all "music-lovers" in the end
