And you can do caps mod to it, personally I think the sound is cleaner and snappier after the mod, and it is not difficult to do.

I've had both and prefer the LP, but it is a bit tube dependent. Looking forward to your thoughts!

@Ti_Leo I don’t solder so I’d have to send it to someone who could perform the mod for me.

@Skyline I’m using the Schiit supplied TS tube in my Lyr, which I found I preferred over every NOS tube I have.

That's the one I settled on for the Lyr as well. I'm currently running a pair of Gold Lions in the LP, which I hated at first. Stock tubes aren't bad...a little dry, which isn't a bad thing. The Gold Lions have more weight and punch to them. They were initially too aggressive, but have really settled in now and are pretty solid all around.

Oh, the inventor (can I say that) of this mod is on both here and HF, sorry I can't remember his username, "ks" something. He charges $150 for this mod. Or you can just send it to someone that knows a little soldering, as the required caps were listed on HF.

@Skyline Those Gold Lions are new production, yeah? One of the things I love about the TS on the Lyr is that it's inexpensive new production so I won't have to worry about shelling out hundreds of dollars when I need a new tube.

The person is @Ksorota, and he has been great about sharing info about the mod. He listed the caps he switched out in the LP thread on head-fi, and you can also PM him about doing the mod for you.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts comparing the two amps, but I would recommend holding off the cap mod for the LP. Spend some time with the LP in stock form with whatever tubes and see if you like the way it sounds. If you don't, then maybe consider having the caps upgraded by Ksorota. I'm not sure I made the right decision by having the caps swapped in my LP.

I'm skipping the mods purely for warranty reasons. 5 years is generous and I don't want to muck that up.

@Skyline Good point, I’ll do the caps mod five years from now.
