The first time was to see if it would work, because it only supported SBC out of the box. I don't have a real practical use, the same library is already on my Sony players, and I have Roon. No real instructions beyond what's at https://github.com/Arkq/bluez-alsa
It looks like the licenses and legal status of these libraries may not let them be included in official builds, but I'll try to write something up that makes it relatively straightforward to add after installation.
Well, my instructions still work, but they assume you are able to make your own choices about licenses. It's your computer after all. The aptX code is certainly covered by patent and can't be distributed directly, but it can definitely do aptX and aptX HD if you want it to. The LDAC library only supports transmit, not receive.
If the LDAC licensing thing is anything like Java's, then you only need to go through that certification to advertise that your product is LDAC-compliant (or certified, whatever).
Just don't advertise it as such and ignore the certification. Also, if you're not building it for distribution you're not violating any licenses.
