LMAO the temptation is real on my end since loads of people in the pen community I'm in are also into $$$$$ watches that make EC and DNA amps look affordable. Sigh.
@Roman the high end stuff is just too much. The main problem is seeing another watch I can afford. Though if Im buying watches like that, theyre gonna be good mechanical watches.
Also worth noting, when I say cheap, I dont even mean bad. I want more because these cheap watches are cool :)
About the only watch I might actually get if I somehow got a very lucrative job is a Nomos Metro. A friend introduced me to their work and while I'm all for gaudy gear the clean lines on that one are just impeccable.
I'd rather get a DNA amp though, if EC really will be properly unobtanium (presuming ZDT Jr. really does have similar voicing sensibilities).
I’m a watch fan and really enjoy the podcast Two Broke Watch Snobs. They mostly cover watches under $1000, including several micro brands I like: Raven, Resco, and Orion.
@Claritas I could start with a $1000 watch, but I don't feel comfortable for exactly that reason... not knowing my taste. And the whole thing is story of ownership for me anyway. Something about the experience of having and wearing watches just does it for me. I can have some good fun learning via $250 watches, even. Build a small COLLECTION for $1000. Maybe by the end I know my luxury watch purchase.
@Cryptowolf thanks, sounds right up my alley! The micro brands are super-interesting to me. Sometimes I feel like I'm learning more about the bare mechanics of horology through those, where the legacy brands can take you through the history of this ongoing progression of navigating through time and show you why certain things just are how they are with timepiece designs.
I recall Two Broke Watch Snobs having one or more podcasts about building a collection for $1000. For my money, I’d go with a Seiko Cocktail series, an Orion Hellcat, and a Casio Casioak. I think that would be right around $1000 and cover the tool, dive/sport, and dress watch categories.
Ha! Already had a Presage in mind! White dial with the blue hands. Though that line has so many great combos. That Hellcat though... with a burgundy dial? That's really something. Thanks for the recommendations!
I have the Hellcat with a burgundy dial. It shifts colors depending on the color temperature of the light being reflected. Fantastic watch, acceptable movement (Minolta).
