They are exactly the same output.

To be fair, I haven't completely ruled out my imagination :P I'll re-test it in a bit.

The headphone output is the output of the headphone amp. So is the preamp output, taken through a 75 ohm thin-film resistor on each channel. In low gain, close enough to line level at the top of the knob. But preamps with gain also can output wayyy above line level, so...

If a 75 ohm. 0.5%, thin-film resistor is the difference between chicken shit and chicken salad, we have extreme problems in the electronics world.

Preamp into what exactly?

Another tube amp (3-stage 45 PP). It has its own volume pots (highly inconvenient dual mono "stepped" pots), and for whatever reason, it did not like having the Sys in front of it either. Then again, neither did the Magni 1.

Ok, I have definitely exaggerated the differences. However, I still detect a decrease in bass definition and softened treble from the preouts (but not with a very high level of certainty... and I'm tired of AB-ing). Would be nice to have more data points.
