Joke aside, it may sound good.. or even better than I disrespect now (indeed my gut says it might have a pretty good treble response). I am just concerned with the medium through which DCA marketed their new product. I don't like how they aesthetically designed 4kusd hp, either. Dan's talk at HF wasn't too bad tho.

I'm hoping it's not as bassy as measured... as A2C is a bit much for me already, tho I'm sure it'll be a step above that so I'm certainly interested in hearing it

“ That's the key message I meant to put in the review. We have the first company to fully adopt research and engineering for headphones. All others are playing around but Dan Clark is committed and executing. So no wonder the results are so good.”. The Dan Clark ortho I heard (Ether CX?) was one of the worst orthos I have ever heard.

I have this feeling that they are trying to market the ultimate pro audio headphone. Meets all kinds of objective criteria so you can use it for your job and tell you studio boss to cough up $4k to get it. Doesn't matter if it sounds like shit, it's the headphone equivalent of Yamaha NS-10

Pro audio with a consumer Harman Curve... no Studio Neutral is, imo, usually less bass than that

Watched the start of the HeadFi advertorial.. does this mean @rhythmdevils has been a metamaterials maestro all this time, and we just didn't use the terminology?

While the advertorial suggests meta materials are something new for headphones, the definition covers any material whose shape influences the acoustic effect. So tissues or foam are metamaterials.

yeah I've stuck everything I can imagine behind ortho drivers and learned what works best after a lot of ignorant trial and error. I've never made a plastic honeycomb device and put it in front of the drivers though, or spoken with famous people about my ideas.

I am skeptical because based on the sound of the Dan Clark ortho I heard, they didn't have the basics right so implementing something high tech like this seems kind of silly. But I emailed them about a loaner unit and I'd love to hear them and learn something new!

@rhythmdevils In light of the Alpha Prime fiasco on CS, I'm not sure a loaner is the best idea for SBAF. But maybe everyone's kissed and made up, or simply moved on. (Unlikely.) Either way, I had rather we not ask for trouble. Just a thought.

Hahaha honestly didn't hate DCA that much. IP ethics may suck
tho. Dan's orthos kinda intend to sound like non-ortho. No ortho technicalities (single-sided weak magnet). Cheesy tone. etc. But kinda sound pleasing as I recall (ether flow open, ether 2, aeon flow open). Based on interview, metablahblah is more like sth sdr-ish.. seems to get highs right. But don't expect good bass..

@Claritas I wasn’t around for that unfortunately sounds fun! I already sent an email asking. I know him from way back in the day from the T50rp modding thread on head-fi before his original designs even before he was making mad dogs. He knows me so I figure it couldn’t hurt.
