We assumed Sasha + John Digweed would start playing at around 11pm. Turns out the gig started at 4pm and finished at 11. We pulled up in $60 cab rides to see everyone leaving.
We have decent excuses. My friend was distracted navigating a minefield of family obligations and I had broken up with my ex earlier in the day and was not really thinking straight either.
Ah, one of the CD's I scratched up greatly with much play. It lived in my car during high school. I think GU Oakenfold NY and Northern Exposure East Coast were the first prog CD's I bought.
It's a bit sad that no matter how much audio gear I buy, nothing will sound as good as the shit stereo in my 1998 Corolla with the windows down driving on Maui.
I have most of the GU collection up to 27 i think. Also some side releases haha. Gu13 disc 1 is such a trip, a real journey. GU19 had diggers in top form on both discs.
Hardest part for me is the loss of faith in technology as the savior god from the machine. Circa 1999 it promised Utopia and prog was the soundtrack. Technology still surprises me some days (a friend had a hole in his retina treated with a laser last week) but living in a cyberpunk society is as depressing as Bladerunner made it out to be.
