Man I remember when I bought the Framemeister XRGB Mini for full price - it cost a good chunk. I ended up needing cash and resold it for less. Then few years later they discontinued it and the secondary price skyrocketed.
Basically, it upscales to 4K, using nearest-neighbor scaling. Upscaling to 1080p is already (mostly) possible, but 4K has been a large hurdle...all while maintaining compatibility and eliminating input lag. I'm interested in it as a means of getting the Switch to display a 4K signal, but also for the retro console use-case, when I want something larger than my CRT.
As to why it costs more than a PS5, it's because it's a niche device from basically a one man company that is basically the ONLY option for 4k scaling on lower sources (and that is an increasing use-case, given the way the TV market is) and will likely be the only option for a few years. The expectation was that it would be over $1000 a few months ago!
I remember looking for the Framemeister! I didn't want to deal with the OSSC compatibility issues. I basically solved the problem by buying a new CRT every time I moved, eliminating the need for a scaler.
