Yep, Chinese New Year is bigger (or deadlier, because everyone wants a break). As a Chinese guy living in China, I don't think I've seen many promotions, and even worse, some of the ecommerce platforms already listed out that some of the sellers WILL NOT ship after Feb. 2nd. Sigh
And if you want discount on audio gears, June 18th, Nov. 11th (biggest two), Chinese Valentines day (07.07 on lunar calendrer), Dec. 12th (and during 2 week prior, as now they are doing sales week) are the time to go, I guess.
I found some actually increase their prices before the sale days and then lower them. My take is, if you think it’s a good deal whenever it is, just get it. Don’t wait 200+ days to “save” a little money for that SMSL amp. Also the good stuff don’t go on sale.
The first year my wife and I were dating I pretended I didn’t know it was Valentine’s Day. She hinted, but she didn’t want to embarrass me, so she said, “Oh, it’s, uh, Chinese New Year.” So I wished her a happy Chinese New Year. The thing is: it *was* Chinese New Year! So, for several years afterward, we celebrated Chinese New Year in style. The neighbors were really confused.
