Why has something like Focal's plug and play sytsem not been adapted universally? Patents maybe?

I usually turn the flap on the pad inside out all the way around then go for it. Still sucks though.

They def are not deisgned for quick pad rolling. With ZMF I always landed on a pad and just stuck with it.

While I agree that the Focal system is better, pad swapping with ZMF hasn't been an issue for me

Is it worse than HD800’s? Those pads are not fun.

I don't like the pad rolling process on ZMF either but wood cups and interchangeable leather pads limit the pad retention options that can be (practically) used.

Most modern systems (that I'm aware of) use some kind of snap fit that basically relies on a small amount of material being able to bend over and over while retaining shape. Just too hard to do with wood.

With that being said there are a few things I can think of to maybe make pad swapping easier but may negatively impact SQ, increase production time and costs by a non-trivial amount, and lower wood cup yield by a non-trivial amount as well.

Zach not labelling the pads drives me crazy. It's such a basic anti-consumer approach.

Well, maybe just lazy, or even just "cost saving"? I received a pair of Autuer pads this week and everything from the cardboard box to the (very nice) ziplock style plastic bag for the pads are well labeled, branded, and of "high end" quality. Yet, I would give up all that $shit$ if the pads had a simple low fi label as that would be substantially more helpful

All the very $fancy$ branding/packaging belies any cost saving argument, so were back to lazy, or just "have not got to that yet" at best, or a kind of "you have to be an audiophile to understand - you have to work for it!" stance

It's a slight pain on the normal ZMF but I've gotten used to it. The Bokeh though; you'll need to use a surgical bot to put on those pads if you somehow take one off. I don't have the dexterity and my wife was throwing expletives had me laughing while she tried to put them on. I got a, "Don't you dare take them off!" after she was successful.

Like anything, you get better with practice. I don’t have issues rolling ZMF pads anymore, though it was nerve-wracking at first.

Another thing to remember is ZMF sonically matches each pair of pads, so it’s best to keep purchased pad sets together versus just putting any two pads of the same variety together. Before the ZMF pouches were released, I just kept my various pad sets in labeled zip lock bags.

The ZMF system makes quick-switching harder, but the plastic peg-type systems cause me anxiety. I worry about snapping them.
