They both have the “Moffat” opinion on what real sounds like. They both are a little gray. The A2 is a little warmer to my ears, which makes the bass a little more present. Can’t go wrong with either, honestly.
I go back and forth on that one. A1 sounds more natural on orchestral / acoustic stuff (but such records are, as you know, tough), and a bit smokier on rock n’ roll and blues. I think it’s a wash.
I'm addicted to the imaging quality and rawness of the A1. I'm afraid that going to the A2 or even LIM would "smooth" it over too much. I'm good with EQing the upper mids on A1 down a bit and building around it. It gets the hard part right, that I'd rather not compromise it.
@GoldfishX I feel that the A2 offers more slam than the A1. The A2 is like a tweaked A1. I wouldn’t call it smooth, but I would prob stick with the A1 if I had to pick only one.
Same feeling as @roshambo123 on my end. It’s more like a small change of venue rather than a change of microphones, filters, and mix (if that makes sense).
