And I just learned about it today.

Got the point, though, reading the post, and was half inclined to post something like, "Yeah? I can do all that and worse. It's good thing I'm busy drinking my tea."

But, now I know, I expect my joke would have been n-th joke on n-th copy of meme.

Will the changstar site/domain be taken down in the near future? It's a handy source of information of mods and measurements.

Back on the grid. Looks good to me.

There will be an interest check for the Tari mod V 2.0 soon.

I agree. The SR series is a bit harsh, but awesome for rock. I graduated to an RS2e (with MrSpeaker Doggie Treats), and I love them. I have a number of TOTL headphones, but I still love my RS2e. One day I will get a chance to hear the next few up the line, and I might blow more money :)

My point is the vitriol used by some posters is just off-putting. It basically says "if you like these headphones, you are an ass-hole/idiot/moron". If you don't like what WE like, you are a jerk. That was pretty much the vibe at ChangStar, and I guess has persisted here.

I mean I like the more technical nature of the folk her, but the ease in which some of the member here use profanity and demeaning language (mostly to equipment and companies, not people - but there are people behind those products and companies) is very disconcerting. If someone doesn't like Grado (or any other line), just keep quiet and post about what you do like. Sheesh. Stuff most of us learned in kindergarten. If you want to add to the conversation, at least be polite.

This place doesn't pride itself on "political correctness". It definitely isn't for everybody.

I completely agree! Those folks on the Grado thread remind me EXACTLY of these babies! Whine whine whine with nothing constructive to say. Very apt.

You are confusing political correctness with being polite. Two completely;y different things. For example, it would be impolite for me to say that ignorant people don't understand the difference, not politically incorrect. :)

I think you're taking this too seriously. A lot of the harsh language around here is as much about expressing an opinion with some personality just for the fun of it, as it is about having strong opinions. I think you will start to get the vibe if you spend some time getting to the know the place. Unless you're posting this because you have an ax to grind. Oh wait, you like Grado's - your feelings were hurt! Hey, it's OK to like Grados, I mean, it's not like there's anything wrong with that.

That's not what this place is about, man. We talk about the positive and the negative.

And kindergartners should do the same. Just keep quiet and don't talk about what you didn't like is just plain wrong.

    Couple of points:

This statement is HF, we're SBAF - you found the difference

Pirates aren't known for their proper use of language, and neither are Best Friends. I use way harsher language with people that I like than ones that I don't. Plus this site is pretty tame compared to the construction sites I work on. For me, the brash assesments and edge is just important as the measurements on this site.

Maybe that's your assesment, but I call it a home for forward thinking. No need to dance around what we want to say, or pretend that a $1,500 grado is even close to a $400 Sennheiser due to advertising dollars driving the discussion. We try to help our friends spend wisely and not waste their time with inferior products. This saves alot of frustration for people newer to the hobby. Glad I followed this advice.

I was referring to the "profanity and demeaning language" part of your statement. So I'm still on point.

I have no issue with people talking about what they don't like, but come on, man, read the grado thread. It's very derogatory. If the site just wants to keep the same people, or people that think exactly the same, then ok. If the idea is to bring in new opinions and people, then bashing a product before you've actually heard it, well that ain't the way. I can take as well as I can dish.

But mostly I'm just pointing out that the stated reason in the OP to start the board ain't working.

AllanMarcus, I looked at the other thread and found that your evaluation of it is inaccurate. It was irreverent, but it was also founded on the evidence of cumulative experience--namely, that people were expressing scepticism about a new product because of earlier products from the same company. Even when discussing the price, the focus was on how justified a price could be based on objective factors (new R&D, new tech). Furthermore, it's groundless to insist that people can't post negative opinions. This forum has never imposed such a rule or culture, and in fact actively combats against such a practice.
If you'd posted in that thread, your objections might have been met with an honest discussion about whether such scepticism was warranted. But you have posted here instead, and that brings the whole forum into the context. In that larger context, no, SBAF is not a failure. Consider the newcomers thread: it may be a simple welcome message, but there's a real effort there to integrate new members. And have you seen the All Purpose Advice Thread? No matter who you are, if you post there your purchasing dilemma are likely to get responses, and treated seriously.
The key to fitting in here is whether you are willing to substantiate your views. If you like Grados, either back it up on objective grounds, or keep it in the realm of subjective preference--the latter is fine, but nobody should pretend that such preference is prescriptive for anyone else.

Allan - no need to go down this road dude. You found an old post from october to stir the shit pot. You like grado, others here don't. Its not even that grado's can't sound decent, its that they are a poor value compared to other headphones out there. The post you are referencing is a bunch of friends goofing, no need to be the dad that comes along to tell everyone to clean up their act.

Edit: Comment removed due to irrelevancy.
