I hope it's a mailing issue. I shipped out something to Maryland last week and it's been stuck in Florida for awhile. I assume it's because of Florence.

I mean, we have his mailing address, so if you want me to send him a potato with "Hey doofus! Hope you're okay and send the Atlas along, asshat!" on it*, I can do that.

Better than poop parcels or glitter bombs. After a few days with no response I (jokingly) propose delivery via spud cannon!

 

What's the status on this potato?

 

The potato was ordered Friday and delayed on their end until 10/9, when it will be mailed to Warrior's place of work. Now we wait 7 days for its message to sprout.

 

There's been a potato delay (on their end), while I ordered the damn thing on the 28th, the potato has just officially been put in the mailing system and will go out tomorrow. I'm pm'ing @Vansen the tracking, which I would share here but I don't want to give warrior's work address away. You have to admit, it would be glorious for us all to watch the f'ing thing arrive. But, yes, the potato is happening, eta is now early next week as it is going from SanFran to Somewhere Swampy, FL.

It's kinda worth @Warrior being a spud just for the potato

Hope his associate, or the associate's girlfriend, didn't do something crazy to @Warrior this time around.

I’m morbidly fascinated yet confused by the whole potato thing. I PM’d @Kunlun, his response was equally confusing, and..... troubling, yet quite hilarious.

I’ll back away slowly now, and just pretend I get the joke....

 

The thing is that this all started out with a suspicion that @Warrior was displaying a lack of integrity, deliberately holding on to the Atlases well beyond the stated terms of the loan (in hindsight, something might have actually happened to him— hope all's well, he seems like a cool bloke).

In an effort to remedy the situation, @Kunlun was magnanimous enough to proffer the gift of a potato, which we all know depending on the variety thereof can be full to bursting with nutrients, but far more importantly is also extremely rich in fiber. The giving of a fiber-packed produce parcel is an allegory of Kunlun's desire for Warrior to "get his shit together" and display the gastric moral integrity that people have come to expect from those borrowing gear out of the kindness of others' hearts.

But no, really, there are services that allow you to send messages on potatoes as a joke/good-natured middle finger. There are much worse, like ones that blow up confetti and glitter (massive pain to clean), and other less fun stuff. It was more of a statement than a letter, less of a statement than a box of used kitty litter. Middle ground.

 

If it's any consolation @aamefford, the company Potato Parcel was on the TV show Shark Tank, and the investors had pretty much the same reaction.

 

Is the willingness to steal a loaner, and derivatively from one's friends, more or less of a recommendation of said thing than the willingness to buy with $ from one's own pocket? Not that I pretend to know what has happened, and I do hope warrior is ok regardless of the answer to that question, but the question does arise.

 

That'd depend on how much esteem one had for said friends in the as yet unconfirmed event that this was done with intent and life didn't just happen to get in the way.

If I were to steal from family then it'd damn well better be life or death because I love them.

 

From my experiences with @Warrior across the years, there is no case I can see for him stealing anything. Dude has shelled out some significant drachmas at the drop of a hat for interesting gear, and never with an "I need to sell A in order to get B" ethos, so I don't see cash-flow issues being likely. Also, according to HF, he hasn't posted there since Aug 24th and here since Sept 17th. I too worry about him being okay. @Warrior can you hear me (us)...
