Then set a deadline or bust. 3500 Dollars is enough money to build a system for your HD600, vinyl rig and speakers with cash to spare for music. @MoatsArt , you deserve better.

@MuppetFace Not really a question, but you went by the username "Kiteki" on HF? If so, I bought my first pair of CK10s based on your review of them, and have been knee deep in this hobby ever since...

    Hi @MuppetFace ,

If you could build a musical instrument , what would it consist of, and how would it be played?

    Love it. :D

Also, the underlying truth to that is that every day that you don't say something makes it harder.

Nope, I have always gone by MuppetFace on head-fi.

Kiteki was a completely different individual. I knew him back during my early-ish head-fi days, and he was always interesting to engage in conversation, even if he was somewhat... erratic... at times. His review style was pretty much the antithesis of SBAF's, and it was even a bit heavy handed by head-fi standards: he'd ramble about life, make rather synesthesiac analogies between sound and color or sound and flavor, talk about the hobby as a precious thing, and over the course of his reviews he just developed this Ryan Trecartin technology-moving-faster-than-we-can-handle type of persona. He was fond of pretending to be a Japanese school girl, and he made a diary to talk about his thoughts on audio and life. Posting in those threads kind of shaped a lot of my early, more "adventurous" views on the hobby. Back when I liked collecting audio gear for the thrill of exploration and consumerism.

Kiteki was responsible for getting me into IEMs, for better or worse.

He got banned a lot from head-fi, so I took it upon myself to make a new diary thread for all the odd-balls who liked to hang out there, and eventually it sort of became "my" diary thread I guess. Maybe he resented me for that, I dunno. We had a falling out years back over something incredibly stupid. He had an unfortunate tendency of completely misconstruing posts and intentions, and he read some very odd things into something innocuous I said. When I was genuinely confused, he accused me of feigning innocence.

If you're reading this now by any chance, Kiteki, I really was *just* talking about painting my nails.

I've actually built sound installations consisting of musical automata. I'd like to do something like the pipe organ with weighted bags of sand that plays sustained tones over the course of years. Yoshi Wada is a particular inspiration.

Ultimatum so what? When money is involved business decisions follow. That is life.

You deserve good "stuff." You can have my HD600 if necessary. I can afford another one. Just tell me where to send it to.

Sometimes we need a break from this "hobby." When it goes from music enjoyment to worrying about gear and finances and bad business experiences... I think it's a good sign to step back. Sell your gear if you want it out of your life, but don't destroy it.

Whether or not you deserve "good stuff" is irrelevant. You deserve to be happy, because you are a human being. Get some PortaPros and use YouTube on your phone if it comes down to it: you don't need any of the drama and bullshit that this hobby can sometimes bring with it to enjoy music.

And stick around regardless of what you decide, because this site is about friendship just as much as it's about gear. I want to keep seeing your posts in my tread.

I saw your giveaway thread in the sales forum. It seems you're going through a depressive phase or maybe a full on existential crisis, so I'm not gonna try and paint a rainbow and say anything corny, I know that shit is rough. Just don't do anything rash okay? If you really want to get rid of a lot of this stuff, selling it and putting that money someplace else would be much better for you and your loved ones.

Please, talk to someone. I'm no therapist---and most people here aren't I reckon---but if you wanna talk to me, just send me a note and I'll give you my e-mail. Just so long as you eventually talk to someone who is more qualified to help than my goofy self.

He probably doesn't want that quote to remain there.

Never met you but you seem alright to me, maybe you're just too hard on yourself. No human is perfect.

    @MoatsArt

Sincere apologies for hijacking @MuppetFace wonderful thread. She is far more wise than I, but damn, asking friends to do stuff for money is such shaky, terraforming ground. It completely changes the dynamics of the relationship. I know hindsight and all but it is important to set some kind of timeline, at least for updates, at the start. I really hope to be wrong but I kind of feel if he was going to be able to do it, there would have been some progress already. I would say that friendship is more important than money. If you push too hard or at the wrong time, it may damage your friendship. If the friendship is more important, you may need to let it go, key Disney Frozen music. If you want your money or your amp more, say to him straight, where is my amp buddy and hope for the best.

    Back to lurking.

    Good luck.

I recommend the head, then. They make cute head thwapping motions afterwards, like they're trying to fix their hair. <3

    Two thoughts:

1.Reading Moatsart's post and the responses remind me how supportive people are. Also, I'm really heartened to read that his wife looks out for him. Having a spouse like that is special beyond words. In Buddhism, there's the idea that when you see the blessings in another person's life, you can rejoice and that then their blessing becomes a cause of happiness for you, too. That's how I feel reading people's open-hearted responses. It's a lovely thing.

    2. Question for Romy: Have you seen this picture?

    Because it's pretty awesome!

My apologies to @MuppetFace but I know @MoatsArt is following this thread so I want to interject some thoughts here.

Hang in there. Life can become very dark at times. Remember there are people that care deeply about you.

I haven't posted much nor had energy to make and post measurements of late, something I love. My health has been a bit frail for the last 3 months. After a cardiac procedure I was left with a depressed immune system. The pneumonia and bronchitis that followed created a very dark time (six to seven weeks) of sleep deprivation, constant struggling for air, coughing, you get the picture. After 5 weeks of this nonsense one morning at 0200, it seemed hopeless. But listening to my favorite inspirational music helped remind me that if I gave up, those around me would be greatly impacted. I found Alan Parsons I Robot rather appropriate, especially Breakdown. It was time to dredge up the from the darkness. Like a bad burrito it will soon pass. I see the light at the end of the tunnel; maybe you can too.

I repeat, hang in there @MoatsArt.
