TIL putting smartphone near amp can induce hiss, hiss died down a lot with the phone somewhere else...

When do you know you need a new amp? When the GO450 has to be pushed to 100% volume for listening level with your headphones....

Yeah... I'm using Fostex T50RP, known to be hard to drive, modded with more dampening, and I'm fine at 40%.
EDIT: oh this is really old, nvm....

A/B with HD800: Technicalities shortfall rather significant, but also don't have the super difficult treble of stock HD800

HD800, where you quickly go from being amazed by their resolution/imaging, to wanting to rip them off whenever a bad record plays.

Never thought IEMs would replace Full-size for home listening, but MDR-EX1000 is making me rethink that, hard.

They're a really enjoyable iem. For my purpose, they didn't have the isolation for out and about. They're really comfortable, too.

Had no interest in getting another Senn after HD600, but sometimes, some trades are just too damn good not to do..

I'll be damned, they are nice, bass is limp coming from planars and the FR tilts a bit too warm for my taste (need new earpads), but other than that, very resolving and smooth, need to A/B with ESP-950

Yeah, bass is the bummer if you're used to a healthy bump, like coming from closed cans. But the good thing is what bass is there is very nice and unstrained. A little EQ can do a lot for the bass.

Buying something "better" would necessitate upgrading my upstream gear (& much of my music), there goes more of my $$, welp.

That's what I'm saying, sell all but 1 or 2 of the headphones, use the cash to improve your upstream gear. $249 gets you an Asgard 2 amp. $549 gets you a Bifrost multibit b-stock. Or buy a LH Labs Pulse Xfi or something. I always try and keep my stable of gear lean as I'd much rather have better gear I'm going to use than a bunch of things sitting around collecting dust.
