LauX and LPt have very similar power control systems. NoiseNuke is NOT advised for either. Nor do they benefit from it. Dr. Cavalli has done an excellent job on power supply design for both.

Are they available commercially somewhere? Noisenukes I mean...
    Thanks

No, this was a DIY project.

Fwiw, I have had some success using my Noise Nuke alongside my iFi ZEN Stream, Curra's comments on using Linear Power supplies got my curious so I threw it in and did notice a slightly blacker background

Not sure if the cost/time is worth the improvements but I was happily surprised non the less. Tho I imagine I'll have more success with using the Noise Nuke outside of my home than within it [as I do like having ZEN Stream any time I'm at a meet/event]

Looks like the Hammond 155b is out of stock for quite a while. Any similar spec chokes avaiable? I've been searching but not coming up with much.

Edit: I was able to find a unit on ebay for too much money. :)

Just finished the build. Quick and easy. (Besides releasing magic smoke from one of my power supplies after plugging into the output instead of input. I'm an idiot).
I'm using this with my PI2AES and instantly noticed cleaner high frequencies, moar plankton. I can go even louder on the volume with no irritation. It's a pleasantly smooth, and detailed sound. Nice improvement for a low cost.

I have been searching as well and the only two likely suitable are:
    • 154B - 1.5A
    • 157E - 4A
    • 156B - 5A
If you had something that was 1A or less, you could likely get away with the 154B, and it is even smaller size that the 155B.

The 157E on the other hand is quite a bit bigger. And inch wider, and .62 inches taller, although it can handle up to 4A. Just watch your case size.

Now the 156B that can handle 5A of DC current and is smaller - just slightly bigger than the 155B, however, that is only 1.5mH, so I am not sure how much filtering it is doing. Bob may have to chime in here.

Now the final build with the Hammond 155B I snagged. I used a shielded heavy duty aluminum Hammond box that I was going to use for something else, but this seemed more fitting. It was not the best box to use since this particular box you can’t take off the top - only the front and back. Size is 4.73 in x 4 in x 2.15 in. I also used speaker adhesive for the capacitors. See attached photos for more.

Consensus is that it sounds like I am using a linear power supply and clarity is definitely improved on the Hagerman Tuba amp.

It's amazing what some high frequency hash filtering on an SMPS will do. I'm probably not going to bother with an LPS going forward when an SMPS is available.

I mean it's limited to single supply low voltage applications

If higher voltage or amp requirement, you can get bigger choke and caps with the same basic circuit.

It's less about the NoiseNuke and more that there isn't really a readily available HV SMPS. If there is one it's probably for tubed audio and is likely to have additional filtering for that reason.

Quality SMPS are starting to spring up here and there for higher power applications and with various filtering either built-in or as an option. I'll be trying one of these at some point: https://micro-audio.com/store/shop/

    One other question @atomicbob.

I built mine and I have not put the labels on it yet for "IN" and "OUT", my question is, does it really matter on this device? Or it is imperative to have the inductor before the capacitors?

The capacitor must be on the output for the inductor / capacitor combination to form the low pass filter correctly.
See the schematics in the original posts.

I can tell from experience it matters as I burned out a power supply attaching it the wrong way. Probably a safe bet to label it.

Finally got around to putting this together...

The only 63v 6800uF caps available at my local shop were these no-name, snap-in things, hence all the wires. Any sonic disadvantage from not being fancy expensive audiophile ones will of course be outweighed by the choke being a real NOS vintage Canada unit :D (155Bs are hard to find at the moment).

I have a few potential uses for this - DAC, phono pre, desktop AIO - but currently it's between Pi2AES and a cheap 24v linear wall-wart. Maybe it's expectation bias: highs seem a little more emphasized, yet cleaner. More listening required.
