Thanks @Elnrik - excellent write-up!
It's the least I could do.
Uhhh... You don't want this back, do you? My precious. I thought I'd hang on to it until mine arrived. Golum Golum. Maybe longer for comparison purposes.
It's good to know 3F nicely sits on BW2 in size -- no need to squeeze space on my desk.
Anyway nice writeup! @Elnrik
You successfully made me tenterhook on my 3f's arrival (prol by march). Curse you..
EDIT: foolish question removed.
A2 was mentioned....
MisterRogers knows where you live.
@msommers Thanks! I should go to an eye doctor (or brain doctor perhaps?) tomorrow... damn.
Great! You can come over and listen to it once in a while.
Heh. Damn. Good one.
Thanks. You bring the beer, I'll supply the amp.
Seems like a fair trade, though maybe a bit blackmail-ish.
Blackmail, whitemail, asianmail... what's it matter? No need to play the race card bro. Sheesh.
Seems @Elnrik loves all the males.
I just love wood.
One question. Is it a space heater like most other megabuck amps? The form factor looks compact which is great but dont know how that'll affect heat
nope, not a space heater at all
No, it runs cool. My Gungnir Multibit gets hotter than the 3F.
That's amazing, so literally no tradeoffs for great sound? 4x/12db gain is just about enough gain for most headphones. Does it even need a transformer to convert balanced to SE like the usual SET amps or is it balanced throughout too?
EDIT: Found one of @dsavitsk's old posts where he says that the output impedance is still a few ohms. Maybe this affects driving really low impedance loads like the Verums? @purr1n has probably had some experience with the combo.
Yeah, I don't know. I plug it in, and it sounds good.
Hi all, is this a good amp for the HD820? I have heard the DSHA-1 before and if I remember right it sounded really smooth but I have preference for more impact and directness. I currently have a DIY Beta22 and Dynahi, both are very good but have similar characteristics, so I'm looking at something different.
Thanks for the inputs and advice.
3F loaner has been retrieved from the House of Elnrik, after only a minor tug of war.
wow, just as I remember- 3F with the Auteur is more enjoyable (better synergy) than with Utopia IMO.
likely because I find the Auteur more listenable and tonally pleasant for all musical genres, and the 3F delivers brilliantly.
Auteur bass definition is sharper with 3F, with impact and tactile sense (guitar bass lines). it kept me up late last night.
a more precise and focused Auteur presentation all around.
haven't heard the HD820 at all, but in general the 3F does have impact and directness in spades.
