FS: Eddie Current Phono Preamplifier

Recent news about Eddie Current's newest phono pre amp made me realize I need to sell mine. Bought a more expensive phono, so it must be better, right?

The model name is officially "Eddie Current Phono Amplifier" (ECPA). It was a slight evolution of the Transcription (or maybe just 2nd run in different chassis and parts tweaks) that was quite popular. Front of the chassis has a MM / MC switch that either uses or bypasses the Cinemag SUT's. Still has seperate power supply and phono chassis with umbilical cord on the power supply. Difference between ECPA and Transcription? Really hard to find info out there, bits and pieces here and there, I read better SUT's one place, quieter another, so I don't really know. It is fairly rare piece of Eddie Current Gear, cant find another thats been sold through HifiShark.

The ECPA uses 2 x 12ax7 and 1 x 6SN7. I also believe I am using Mullard 12ax7s and a Tung Sol 6sn7, but I want to double check. I believe the tubes I have are not stock, stock used some russian 12ax7. The Mullards / Tsung Sol are included in the sale of this phono.

I can take pictures of it, but its in great condition, no scratches - kept in a house with children and pets, but I'm not a filthy dirt collector, so you won't even know that I have grubby kids or a dog. Never understood the no kids thing in for sale articles. Are people buying audio gear and finding old Gogurt wrappers and parts of crayons inside amps? Pets are another thing, never understood how people get pet hair in the places they do, or that they don't check to clean before selling. How long does it take - 30 seconds? Do your cats purposefully shed inside your tube amp?

Price is also a bit tricky - I am not sure what MSRP was on this guy, and used EC gear usually sells for close to MSRP. Steve Guttenburg's article states it had $1200 MSRP, random head-fi articles where people bought it said it was more than that. I paid more than MSRP from TMR (only $100 more), maybe due to tubes? I am going to say that my asking price is $950 shipped + paypal fees for now. CONUS only - Friends get preference. No original packaging, but will come very well packed.

Jesus that's a good deal. And I know a good deal when I see one. Unlike the new EC phono this one has MC capabilities (new one won't have a sut). Please god if we live in a sensible fair and predictable world, someone buy this before he lists on other sites. Let's keep in sbaf family or forever lose your dignity and our respect.

Price increase due to one of a kind editing gaffe

 

I am now down lower than the price of the NEW Classic Phono Pre - $900 shipped. This phono has Cinemag SUTs built in to work with MC carts, which it does very well. Plenty of gain, in the 65db neighborhood. Used with pretty low output cart, .4mV, and sounded great.

I will continue to lower the price, so the longer you wait the cheaper it will be. I might have to pay someone to take it off my hands in a bit. Also, every week this is unsold, it continues to bring more shame to @k4rstar starling reputation.

 

I just can’t right now. But I want to. Maybe if I can let go of something else...
