FS: Sennheiser HD650 Amaranth Wood Cups

Ever wanted closed Sennheiser HD650s? Are you a fan of wood?

I couldn't resist trying these amaranth Kennerton HD650 ear cups before they became unavailable.

What do they sound like? I was actually surprised how little they changed the overall signature of the HD650. I expected a completely different sound, but was happy to find they didn't change much.

They need more damping than is provided (which is none at all), so that's the one caveat I'd list here.

Why am I selling them? Basically, because I was curious and really didn't need a closed HD650. I have different closed headphones that I use when I need isolation.

 

What the? Didn't know cups existed beyond a couple that the Darth Beyer guy did way back when. Can you talk a little bit more about them? How do they attach? How much isolation do they give? What did change? I have been looking for so long for something that was like the HD650, but closed - these could make things easy. Thanks.

Paid a bit more than that and attached them and listened for a night.

As for the sound, it doesn't actually change a ton. The one thing is that there's no damping and I think there should be, so you'd want to get some damping materials and experiment so you don't get any reflections.

It definitely adds isolation, but if you want true isolation you'd also want to get pleather HM5 pads or something of that nature to properly isolate.

To attach, there are screw holes that are already there in the HD650 housing, you just screw in the wood cups through 4 points inside.
