I have to find this amp a new home, in the back of my head I am not sure how long I can keep our toddler and his impending brother away from something like this.

There are some minor circuit tweaks akin to the current S model, the smallest film caps have been swapped for mundorf evo aluminum oil, and several electrolytics have been replaced except for four which I couldn't find replacements for. This amp was from the original run of amps and it is no longer stock, I would not expect Eddie Current to offer any warranty due to both reasons.

Condition is mostly excellent with a few small imperfections here or there.

    Tubes:

    Original upside down Y 6c33c
    4x Winged Y 6c33c
    5x Tung Sol 6DT4
6SL7GT Tung Sol Stock modern production
    VT229 Sylvania
    6SU7GTY Tung Sol Brown Base
6SL7GT National Union x2 (one with minor crack in plastic)

Bad/noisy (Maybe a triode swapper can get these to work??)
    CV1985 Brimar
    6SL7GT Cossor

Logistically I will not be able to ship this amp right away mostly because it's a huge endeavor across likely 2-3 boxes. I do have the original EC cardboard box.

I will need to clear $1300 for this one net to me; I ship via FedEx ground with insurance (I'd guess it's 60-$100 for the shipping). Preference to friends peeps.

This has the exclusive rare fancy front dress plate on it too. A $200 value. If anyone wanted to convert it closer to the ZDS, I have a pair of the new coupling caps.

I've got the same front faceplate...very nice.

There's just something about having these, in addition to happy listening.

After those caps go in, not much I'd bet. Other then the gain switch...

There are some extra shielded wires, a few resistor values are changed, THD is a little higher but with the benefit of an improvement in the perceived sound quality.

i can't recall, have you been to an AZ meet? If you do come down here I'd be glad to let you try what I have. Just don't bring that Utopia or I'll have to get another credit card!

I had planned to come to one, but it didn't work out.

You should come to the Albuquerque meet in late April!

I'm fortunate to get a few days to see how I like it, but if initial impressions hold, this isn't going anywhere.

Ultra strong Neodymium magnet to enhance sub bass.

Kidding, it's the attachment magnet for a mod mic.

    1. New paper and oil caps (along the same lines of the original / early ZD). These caps might be better than the original ZD (or different). I'd listen first before replacing. The gen 2 ZDSE used Obbligato film caps. which were warmer and more syrupy. It's matter of taste. I prefer the paper / oil caps of the gen 1 and gen 3 (ZDS)
    2. ZDS has less feedback at the H setting. Add an extra 1k ohm resistor in series to the existing resistor from the output back to the grid of the driver. This increases output impedance from approximately 12 ohms to 20 ohms, which was done specifically for the HD600/650/800. If Utopia, I'd stick with the 12 ohms, or maybe 8-10 ohms (which I think is the sweet spot for Utopia). Note that less feedback will increase measured distortion, but the amp will have more depth, openness, separation, and liveliness.
    3. The original ZD had a film cap right after the rectifier. This was later replaced by a higher value electrolytic because a few people were having hum issues. The ZDS added small value film cap parallel to the this electrolytic. If you have a film cap and there is no noise, then don't worry about it.
    4. ZDS changed all the Solen film caps in the power supply out for the red Audyns. This generally made the amp better overall and allowed it to sound good even with new production Tung Sols 6SL7, which wasn't necessarily the case before.
    5. ZDS also added a 1uf cap to parallel the electrolytic cap in the feedback loop. Smooths out the highs, less strident.

The funny thing here that I want to point out is that with these epic amps, you can actually tweak the sound quite a bit. I would imagine a studio with feedback removed would add in a bit of tube bass and a hint of warmth.
