    Very true I have tried using cheap leather punches and while you can get them to work it is much harder and using them on felt is nearly impossible.

    Yea. that's definitely a downside of the final mod. First SD mod with a tip is still the easiest way but not the best.

    Changed the title of the thread . "Resonator" became "absorber" . Initially it was a joke to mimic the "helmholtz resonator" but nowadays, I don't know it's still that funny and fair.

    Actually, the Superdupont became a kind of DIY absorber placed in the center of the HD800. We don't know if it works as a resonator and we can't pretend we created a "resonator" .


    EDIT : CANCELLED. We're staying with Resonator. Alea Jacta Est.

    What's your plan here SD? Do you have any ideas to improve the mod further? Things you'd like to improve in terms of SQ? Looking for feedback from other users? Or are you pretty happy with the current results? Just curious.

    My local store has an HD800S for demoing. I'd given up on getting the 800 to where I could listen to it comfortably based on my trials with Tyll's version of the Anax mod. But depending on how I like the sound of the S and the contents of the upcoming innerfidelity exposé, a modded Star Wars Face Tweeter might be back in the running :punk:

    @two_ears . We're in Beta . I sent the mod to a list of experienced and ackowledged people to see if their impressions and measurements match mine. Thus far, the result seems even more positive than I would have dreamt of. So next step is production of the current mod. It was purposedly designed to be quite easy to DIY and produce with consistent results. I measured several SD absorber and they all measure the same. that's enough for me so it's time to organize a proper thread that sums up things ( history, Measurements and impresions from various sources and the How-to for DIYfiers) and allow people to order from me if necessary.

    I Think I can produce a few dozens of those little thing within a few days. i'll constitute a stock before to accept any new order.

    For the price, I'll do like bandcamp Artists : "Name your price" ;). The cost is almost negligible ( 4 or 5 $ including Shipping) so 4 or 5 $ will be the lowest. Dunno yet how i'll organize that though. All benefits will be used to pay a plane ticket for California. I want to meet SBAF friends :) . If I earn more money, It will be donated to SBAF. I don't need or want to make money on that. I'm definitely a die hard fan of OpenSource and free software.

    @OJneg : mmh. Both SBAF and SD are absorbers IMO and I already ask tyll to talk about "SD absorber" . Will ask to Tyll what's the best in his opinion.

    It's up to you as far as I'm concerned. I think it may be doing a bit of both---it does have a well with a hard bottom, so it will have some sort of resonant characteristic. The felt will spoil the Q of the resonance, so it's likely a wider band but less efficient resonator than the HD 800 S, which will have a higher Q.
