    Maybe god is punishing them for their bullshit pricing shenanigans on the latest flagships.

    If God exists, I'm sure God doesn't work like that. This is more like HFM inflicting consequences on themselves for their BS pricing / craptastic build quality, and for HFM infiltrating and spying on Changstar private correspondence. I'm jacked up on caffeine right now and suffering from PTSD from what HFM did to us. Ugh. Makes me so mad.

    $5 says at least one of these will best the Ether (insert flavor here).

    $5 says I'll end myself if either sound like the HE560.

    I wish planars would disappear.

    The build quality of HFM is what scared me off of the HE-400S and towards the HD650.

    What amazed me when I auditioned them was just how cheap they look and feel even when still assembled. While I decided against the HE-1000 on sonic grounds, they'd have been a very hard sell based the build even if I'd adored them. The little $400 Master and Dynamic MH40 look and feel far better than the HEK (not commenting on the sound, never bothered to listen to them) - and that's the kind of look I assume HiFi-Man were going for ... which they missed by, well, a couple of AUs.

    Not sure what AU means, Torq, but the rest makes sense. In this sense, Schiit seems the diametric opposite re design. Wish they made headphones

    AU = Astronomical Unit.

    Roughly the distance from the Earth to the sun or about 150,000,000 kilometers.

    I wouldn't doubt it if the HE1000 cost $60 to make.

    I'm confused, there is serious love for their products, of which some appears deserved. Yet QC issues like that show lack of respect in the end, like Beats loading their phones with stuff to increase the weight.

    EDIT. Just saw your post Marvey, I'm a slow typer.

    What it feels like when HFM releases low quality junk and tells you to accept that it's worth thousands:

    It's been way too stinking long since we have had a Star Trek themed thread derailment...

    Changstar had always been very positive toward their products. The HE-500 at $599 was well regarded. So was the HE-6 at $999. HE-400, HE-5, HE-5LE, all fairly well regarded at the time. I would say that we started to lose respect them for them when they decided to play the increase the price game. The "HE-500 replacement", the HE-560 was priced at $999. The "HE-6 replacement", the HEK was originally slated to be about $2k, but Fang knew that with Jude and HF support, he could easily clean up at $3k.

    At some point, we just decided we didn't want anything to do with them after Jude asked them to fire Jeff, who was a HFM liaison to us. Evidently Jude did not like Jeff providing us with samples of the HE-400S, HEX, etc. (Which were well received here.) Not to mention how Jude probably gave them access to privileged chats and forum posts at Changstar. Kind of long story, but this had to do with non-disclosure of pricing for the HE1000 beta where Head-Fi'ers were PM'ing each other like mad trying to find out what price people paid. Jude was trying to shift to blame of that to Changstar. Ultimately HFM was dumb because they asked that people not reveal the price instead of getting people to sign an NDA.

    I mean, an HFM rep flat out confirmed to me that he was spying on our Changstar forum. Simply just deplorable behavior. After seeking council from Ravi, I decided that we shouldn't give a crap about our relationship with HFM anymore. If they make a good headphone, we can buy it ourselves and give it a fair shake. Like it doesn't matter anymore because we don't have anyone to serve as a liaison with them..
