Agreed. The proprietary mounting system would have made sense had they followed through on initial promises to provide different pad types to tune the sound but now it's just a load of buttpain. I'd almost prefer they adopted the same soft plastic mounting ring as some HiFiMAN cans except... nah.

Main reason I even asked was that my corrosive skin and the local climate are hell on leather so they might wear out eventually— it's the same reason fake leather doesn't last long with me. Argh. Might get decent aftermarket pads and cannibalise the mounting rings as a last resort if it ever comes to that, or just use tape.

    Did you do it though?

This reminds me of how Sennheiser think that an XLR or PENTACONN jack makes a cable worth $234.05 (AUD) more than the TRS option. I can't help but wonder what forces are at play for the pricing of replacements to end up so high. My best guess is greed, limited production or a combination of the two. I figure apparent demand would be higher if spares were more readily available.

I do not have $240 to shell out for pads LMAO. Maybe for medicine etc but definitely not for anything hobby-related right now, haha. First order of business had I a lot of for-fun cash lying around would be refurbishing a certain Fostex porta-amp so it can find a new home (forgot I had it, dug it up when I was cleaning my room)

Offtopic but serious talk. If you need to do a double take on spending $240 for medication, drop me a PM. Nobody should ever have to think twice before getting meds.

No no, not what I meant! Phrasing was weird. I'm not so hard off that I'm worried about necessities, just an example that came to mind because I was hearing about how COVID infection rates could surge all over again because of mass evacuations recently (typhoon) and it's been taking up a lot of headspace the last few days.

Some of y'all already know this because I've brought it up a few times before but I live with my parents and siblings so I don't have to worry too much about things like rent or utilities; I actually have a comfortable existence that's a luxury compared to what billions have, just that I don't get to spend very much money on toys :)
