Lots of talk about HD650, but what about us who enjoy bass?

I really liked them. But they're clearly mid-fi as they are a bit fuzzy / hazy sounding. Quite a good, engaging sound signature though. I wonder if the JVC DX-1000 is hazy sounding too though.

    Open or closed backs!?!

And for some reason previously discussed, whether it was fit/seal issues, I never found the PM3s to be bassy. In fact, I found them quite sterile and sometimes even blurry. Especially after using my Sony MDR-1a, and my Ultrasone Sig DJs. In fact, the PM3s reminded me of my Beyer T5ps... (which I mostly look at... Lol -- http://www.martincustomaudio.com/2015/01/quilted-maple-beyer-t5ps.html?m=1)

    Want to know as well...

DX1000 isn't hazy. It's liquidy. Deep, luscious bass, romantic mids, smooth highs.

With the wrong dac, the treble can sound a little grainy. With the right dac, it's like chocolate silk.

If you don't appreciate bass, they'll upset you sometimes. If you need prominent highs, they won't entirely satisfy. But, they aren't dark or veiled at all.

They're not detail monsters, but they're fun as hell and you can listen to them all day.

I plan to convince one or two people to love them at a local hangout. There is a lot to love.

    Anyway...

I still want to know what this new magical can is. If the bass is as big as he says it is, it's gotta be closed.

I think it's amping. I found the PM-3 to be quite surprisingly demanding.

Yeah, true, but modded PM-3? I don't know. Note that stock PM-3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> stock T50RP.

it'd be interesting too compare the pm-3 (modded). Nonmodded they were too polite with no extension either way and a flat 2d soundstage. Now I'm not saying that the paradox is perfect the detail retrieval and dynamics suck (dynamics more so than the detail retrival), but the sound stage and separation where better than stock hd650 for me. Plus those mids.....<homer drool> best mids I heard in audiophile land headphones.

Paradox Slant would be another recommendation for the OP. The Slants have slightly more bass than HD650 which has slightly more bass than Paradox/HD600.

I'm guessing this applies to HD6x0 too, given their impedance curves (as per http://www.changstar.com/index.php/topic,90.msg432.html#msg432). Do you think it would have a good effect on them? I wonder why it isn't commonplace considering the bass roll off on those.

Was it a planar that will be released on thursday? :D
Can a dynamic headphone deliver the bass and crystal clear sound as a planar?

I dont really want a closed headphone, semi closed I guess is ok.

Same effect, but not as pronounced on HD650 since the ratio of the peak's impedance to the nominal impedance is smaller.

I wouldn't get hung on on types. Sonic characteristics and what we hear matter most.

I don't know about the HD 650 really having more bass now after seeing Sonarworks averaged measurements of current production 600s and 650s being under 1 db for the hump. I couldn't tell a difference in the low end other than the HD 650 was ever so slightly cleaner/better extended. It just sounds darker as the slight shout and shrill is gone.

off topic, but speaking of Nomax, he mentioned a K1000 successor for late 2016 last month in a few threads...

He's definitely on acid, but I haven't seen him announce something that hasn't happened yet. So, the K1000 thing sounds cool. Now all we need is Sony to whip up a new MDR R10 and we'll be set with the TOTL Orpheus/K1000/MDR R10 triumvirate of unattainable cans.

If you think the LCD line is slow and thick, what do you find fast and whatever the opposite of thick would be?

Damn, this thread came to the right time. I really love the HD 650 since the weeks I got them but I crave for better bass.

Mervinator, how's the soundstage of the unknown phone? At least HD 650 level in size (maybe a bit more depth)?

Nomax promised that too. At least he promised a true flagship from Sony. So, don't hold your breath on a K1000 replacement...
