Maybe but I actually raised the HF beyond relative to stock and the vegans, so it doesn't actually sound darker at all.

Take you time listening to it but I find that if the frequency response goes back up after 1kHz it might give detail and air but makes timbre sound off. HD650 has excellent timbre as does my modded HE-6 because the treble gently rolls off, just like listening to speakers as HF energy dissipates faster in air compared to LF energy. 8-10kHz peaks are a no go for me anymore, like old Hifiman tuning, which I grew out of.

Either way, good job with mods. Isn't nice to see exactly what your mods are doing?

Oh I agree, but that peak isn't nearly as a brutal as say a stock HE-500.

    For comparison.

This is about the darkest tuning I find personally acceptable, but I am a previous HE-6 and HD800 owner, I prefer HD600 over HD650.

Nice! So our tastes are similar. I'm still amazed at the resolution and stage depth the M1060 provides.

I believe we have a serious new ortho contender regarding mods but also the sound. Nice job for the Mod yeah @MrTie, it's really nice to see a headphone responding quite nicely to modifications.

Okay I must report a headband problem too. However, I was able to fix it. The headband just went out one the left side.
The headband is not glued, it is just kept tighten by two "metal wings". The pressure applied by these two is not enough in my opinion. When I say "not enough", it's in term of lifetime. It works for few weeks but after some uses it naturally releases the headband, especially if you are using a headphone stand which relies only on the headband (yeah obvious but I just realized that today ^^).
With a screwdriver and patience you can fix the problem, however, I am worry that I need to repeat the procedure. This would actually assess a bad quality product. Wait and see.
The sound is still awesome though (modded version).

This is as close to reference I can make them, unless I decide to do irreversible hardware mods...

    Results of current config:

    Audeze Vegan pads:

3 inch or 7mm paper towel circle placed under the grill but on top of the foam outside. You can try a black napkin if it suits your tastes better:

Red Trace is stock M1060, Green trace is M1060 with Audeze vegan pads and 3 inch paper towel:

Is it just one layer of paper towel?

Without the paper towel they are remarkably similar to Audeze LCD 3 fazor, FWIW.

Have you seen Zeos' review? He actually removed the foam that is present in stock form, whereas you added more (kind of :p). I was wondering if you tested them like that as well? I am definitely getting them as soon as they come back online.

Yes, I did see his review and I did test them without grills but not no foam and grills. That is a recipe for reflection disaster. No grills was worse than stock, ie even more screwed up frequency response.

Thanks for your feedback! I was debating between these or HD650's (I like a slightly darker sound signature). But side-by-side testing is out of the question here in The Netherlands. So your input is super valuable!

Yeah removing all dampening does exactly the opposite of what he thinks he hears for some reason. I took a measurement of it for easy reference. Lifts midbass/mids, lowers treble, makes the FR less smooth.

Awesome man! Thank you both for the clarification. Just noticed that the monoprice website has an eta for the M1060 set to 4/21! F5 is my friend today...

Because he's deaf. I hate that people read his reviews and think he has any f'ing clue what he's talking about.

He led me to believe that he-400i was drivable off of a phone, laptop etc. And that he-400i's were neutral and smooth up top with nice plannar bass.
haha. ahahahaha. hahahahahah. omg. hahahahahah. I can't. hahahahaha.
I still remember the feeling I had when I first put them on after having huge expectations from his video review. I spent a lot of money thinking that I would get something amazing but was only met with god awful siblance and teeth gritting harshness. Also cero subbass lol.

I read most, if not all of this thread, are the M1060 worth buying at that price point?
