I agree but you really can't go wrong with Google Nexus phones in my opinion. Imagine a phone with no bloatware and you get updates ASAP rather than when your carrier releases them.

Honestly I have an M9 and had a Nexus before and I am kind of regretting my decision since there is just so much damn bloatware from both ATT and HTC.

    You and your sensible practicality.

OK, last question, relevant to this forum: anyone know how otg works with USB type C? I am particularly curious as I have a GOv2+infinityomg coming eventually. I desire to use it with my phone. I searched for info on this point, but have found only a cable on amazon that claims to be otg for type c to micro-b, but given the price and origin, I am circumspect to say the least. Since type c is reversible, you cannot simply declare the phone is in host mode by grounding pin 4 (also there are like 54389574398276 pins). I suspect there is a software toggle somewhere on the phone to determine if phone is host or client whenever it is hooked to something other than a power source, but have nothing to confirm this.

First thing I tested. I bought one of these:

    http://www.amazon.com/Type-C-Cable-quality-Female-Black/dp/B00SHM4HS4

If will come back in stock via Amazon for $5. Works great.

That's the sketchy one I saw on amazon! Glad to know it works. Its cheap enough that I will almost certainly buy three, and try to DIY the usb a end into a micro-b connector for direct connection into the GOv2+

Forgot the v2+ is micro b. That actually really sucks that LH doesn't sell compatible cables that no one makes like this or the TRRS adapter.

Wow Zero, super jelly you've been able to play around with the N6P for the past few weeks. You sure you aren't just having new toy syndrome though? :p

I currently have a Oneplus One I bought about a year ago right after the Nexus 6 was announced, and while performance-wise it still feels awesome, I am getting a little tired of it and the fact it took Oneplus what felt like forever to release a version of 5.1.1 that had the fixed touchsreen firmware and Stagefright fix and all the annoying little bugs that I keep getting because Oneplus can't get its shit together. Plus an upgrade in battery life and a better camera would be really nice. Honestly been missing the Nexus line since I sold my N4 but couldn't justify the price for the N6.

Zero, could you elaborate on the battery life of 6P? I'm thinking of upgrading from my M8, and I typically get around 4 hours of screen on time? How does the 6P fare?

I'd wait for professional reviews to tell you more. I suspect most who have had the nexus 6 will be pleasantly surprised.

Yup. I am also planning to put a trrs onto the stock uerm cable to see how that goes. I am pretty confident with a solder station, but I am equally confident it will suck.

Slightly off topic.. can 3.5mm TRRS plugs/adapters be used with 3.5mm TRS jacks (i.e. those found on smartphones, SE portable amps, etc.) w/o issues? I'd really like to have a single cable solution (for my UERM) to use with my S4 and with the GOv2+.

No. Balanced TRRS plug uses all 4 conductors for audio signal, usually in a formation of L+,R+,L-,R-. If you just stuck it in a TRS jack, one of those signal lines would be dropped. The reason a headset TRRS and stereo TRS plug work interchangeably on many phones is they maintain the standard L+,R+,Gnd setup of a stereo TRS and add a Mic to the 3d or 4th conductor/pin, and ground is common the whole time.

The other problem, is related: if the pinot for balanced TRRS is L+,R+,L-,R-, and the phone's jack is wired for L+,R+,Mic,Gnd then you run a high risk of damaging your UERM, since the phone is expecting a mic signal instead of the return for one of the ears; also the other ear would be getting common ground, which would not go well.

EDIT: Original listing of pinout was incorrect. I misread the pinout description on the LH Labs site, which is pretty significant. The answer is still "don't do it," but the pinout changes the explanation of "why not".

looks pretty cool - heck I would be happy just to own a smart phone. I just have a cheap LG touchscreen phone that was like $10.00

Nexus 5X can't come quite soon enough. Really looking forward to this phone to replace my aging Samsung Galaxy S4. First phone to pair the Snapdragon 808 with a full HD screen which is what the chipset was designed for. With direct Google updates one doesn't have to worry as much about software vulnerabilities as they get patched and no bloat. Camera ratings also look great so far which is a welcome improvement on the original Nexus 5.

@zerodeefex have you tried any Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 chargers with the 6p? I've heard some initial impressions saying it'll require special quick charging devices and won't be compatible (for fast charging at least) with QC2.0 stuff.

I was 99% sure I wanted the 5x but until I found out it didn't have a micro SD slot. I wanted a smaller phone with a micro SD slot, but so far I haven't seen one. Are they going extinct or something?

Hooray! after a week of stalking the google store, I nabbed a 6p with 64g. Supposed to ship mid-November. I will report back once it arrives.

@imackler, I was stoked about the moto x pure as well, but while I was waiting for it to be thoroughly reviewed, the nexi rumors were building. I wanted to wait for marshmallow anyway, since I am effectively switching from Apple and want granular permissions. "But auf, didn't you switch from apple back in the chang days?" Yes, I got a G3, liked it a lot, but couldn't get over a couple things: permissions in L, notifications in L, and the f'ing curved-back-desk-wobble. Sold it, resumed my iphone 5s for a little longer to wait for marshmallow. The Motos also suffer from desk wobble.

Yeah, but its awesome to hold. Feels really good in the hand. Looking forward to hearing how you like the 6P!

The OnePlus X looks fantastic for $249.

It charges very fast via my QC chargers.

Having used both extensively, the 6p makes the Moto X feel like crap. It's a completely different league in terms of device quality.

I'm waiting for the 128GB to come back in stock to order one for work. I am really excited.
