Old Guys Rage About a Kids Show - And why SBAF is bad for you

Nail hits head. I would have been able to get over the nauseating "wokeness" of this show if they'd at least got the character of Obi-Wan right, but no. Last Jedi is my single least favorite piece of Star Wars content for what it did to the character of Luke...and his redemption the end of Mandalorian is one of the reasons I rate that series so highly. I gave up on Kenobi after two episodes and have no desire to watch the rest.

It is true that Peterson does not hold to a modern moral anthropology, so transhumanism and the like is out, as is woke, etc., and a virtue ethic that was just normative in our culture up until about 40 years ago is in.

Holy shit. The Kenobi show does have its issues, but blaming it on more non white people being showcased more isn't it, chief.

 

If you think Jordan Peterson is the "the incel/sad male fragility idol" I have to believe you drank the kool aid of popular journalism or sampled only certain options without looking at the whole picture of what he's about.

This man through his lectures and videos helped tens of thousands get back on their feet when society and their own conscience told them they're nothing and the world is better of without them.

Being so down in hell, desperately clawing for any grasp of past familiarity and comfort with the mind unable to comprehend the current situation due to phytological trauma, dissociating from reality in a state ranging from nothingness to hallucinatory distortion, Jordan Peterson's voice can be the only thing getting you through each agonizing and miserable day.

If you have a strong character that has never been pushed past breaking point , to the lowest of lows and then realising that's just the start, falling through multiple layers of despair and pain you never thought you could endure and going further than you ever thought you'd ever be able to suffer, begging for sweet relief, good on you. Don't dismiss if you don't don't understand the utility and inadvertently lead others to discard him and the tools he brings for survival and recovery.

That man saved many lives, literally. His benefit to butthurt ratio is more than 9:1. There are many useful and not useful personalities in the world, let each decide. Pushing an agenda of ego isn't helpful except for further inflation.

Someone is drinking the kool-aid. Jordan Peterson has saved thousands of lives? His simplistic “philosophy” is no different than a million other self help books written by grifters. His “help” is mired in a thick coating of toxic masculinity that makes society actively worse. And his blatant transphobia has given legitimacy to bigots and their views. I cannot stress this enough, f**k Jordan Peterson.

Oh, and I have read some of his execrable books and watched some of his garbage talks, so this is not me forming my opinions through the lens of third parties. The man is noxious as f**k and also put himself in a coma eating nothing but meat and anyone who thinks an idiot like that should be giving advice on how others live is in a special kind of denial.

Peterson is a dumb person’s idea of a smart person. He is a scam artist who launders right wing extremist ideas.

 

It's noteworthy that most of Peterson's critics never discuss his ideas or what he says and almost unequivocally resort to ad hominem, straw men and tantrums.

To people labeling my post "misinformation" please help me understand precisely where I am misinformed. It's unfortunate that as a society we're so fragmented right now that we've almost lost the capacity to honestly discuss things beyond a very narrow range of viewpoint.

 

Peterson’s ideology is right wing propaganda behind a thin veil of basic self help maxims, peppered in with some Jungian concepts to make it seem deep. I’ve read Jung extensively and Peterson often fundamentally misunderstands his ideas and conclusions, but that’s understandable given that he’s just using them to lend legitimacy to his real messages, which are regressive.

 

It doesn't help your argument against a toxic ideology by linking someone from the opposite side of the spectrum that's even more toxic.

I don't get triggered by people who I disagree with.

But it now the norm that people get triggered over opinions that they heavily disagree with.

Social Media life is just like real life.....gross. Groupthink blows.

 

Here's my reasoning. Many self help books take self evident facts and try to shove them down your mind hoping in for a placebo revitalisation. The self help industry is worth billions. My simple mantra for these and many other industries is to avoid like the plague as soon as a sniff of selling is detected.
You have guys like Tony Robinson who some people can find helpful but only after buying courses and tickets with salvation only at the next purchase.

This left/right approach is silly to me, in parts of the world everyone has their own opinion without needing labeling for their affinities and being judged by the separatists groups.

Peterson is trying to uncover the human mindset using previous knowledge and share his journey with anyone who resonates with his message. His biblical series was a real eye opener, going beyond the trivial literal to metaphorical translations debate and actually unfolding some teaching which seem to be true across generation and found embedded in many cultures, mine inclusive. The message is simple, be good to yourself, then close family, then society and things will be ok. Focusing backwards on society first without looking inwards first is not good.

Eating mainly beef is what some have to do if they're blessed with an overly irritable bowel causing pain or inflammation triggering autoimmune conditions. It's not fun to laugh at other's medical issues or necessary diets is it?

Furthermore I truly appreciate the calibre of guests he brings on his channel. Never have the common people been exposed to so many ideas of current humanity. I enjoy listening to the merits of all points of view and making my own decisions from him and his guests. Some I agree, some I don't based on my experience yet it's good to know both views without labeling, it's just the way it is.

Overall he's a force for good.

I’ve had irritable bowel issues since I was a child. Not once in the ~25 years I’ve had those issues has any doctor or nutritionist ever even suggested I go on an all beef diet, because it is ludicrous. The human body cannot get all the nutrients it needs solely from beef. My point is that someone who tells other people better ways they should live cannot take care of himself in a holistic way and that should be a red flag for people.

As for Biblical stuff, for thousands of years people did not read the Bible literally. That is a modern invention of the last 150 years or so, but if you want some truly excellent non-literal takes on the Bible, check out Bill Donahue. He really pulls out the hidden meanings of many religious texts:
