Honestly I tried to keep my calm about this but I cannot accept this any more.

Windows 10 is a smooth runner now. Thing is, every time you save a file in your "documents" W10 makes a mirror copy of sorts in OneDrive and you actually have to change a setting to not let it make that mirror copy without your consent.

The cloud and One-Drive are literally forced in your workflow, even if it does not help you at all.

The last half an hour I tried and finally succeeded to make some back-ups of files to clear up some space. If you do not get it right you will get some B.S. internet explorer download URL to your One-Drive file or something similar in your designated folder on the PC/laptop, not the actual content.

The only way to get everything securely on my back-up drive was to download every file one by f'ing on and "save as" and by manually changing the directory, while checking that the content was getting there. All the while you get vague download notifications without status indication for progress.

Seriously, I usually let these things be but if making a back-up gives me this much hassle I am at my limit.

f'ing hell, in the future I cannot trust Microsoft with the cloud services.

    P.S.

Managing your files in your One-Drive seems easy. Thing is in my basic 5Gb account the function were so limited that it reminded me of my old iPhone. I do not want Microsoft to give me that feeling.

P.P.S. I have to stop now, I feel like ranting and yelling at the screen. f**k Microsoft for sacrificing usability for flashy B.S. ever since Vista came along. (Yes I grew up with XP!). Windows 7 was good again but ever since my patience for their idiocy has been declining. f**k Microsoft

Just uninstall one drive, the only OS setting I’m aware of that requires it is the Ransomware protection, which pretty much has to copy every file.

I am confused. It has always been an option you could remove? For every file (even text files) you would find the mirror copy in your One-Drive when you intended it to just go to your documents.

I am on the verge of exploding now...

    P.S.

    I need a break.

Why not just save everything to Onedrive and sync that to your local machine? That way you can get to your documents anywhere, on any device...kinda the point of cloud storage.

But I agree that MS is often shitty. Today I moved all my Onenote notebooks from my personal account to my corporate account. Sounds easy, but it really is not. I mean, once you figure out how, it's easy, but it's far from intuitive. And if you only use the web version of Onenote? You're fucked. You NEED the desktop version, which they briefly discontinued last year. What shit.

Yes I believe so, but I honestly don’t remember if it was available in the really early versions of Windows 10.

Ugh, I'm having a dickens of a time at work trying to set up office and onenote for people, because we all have work accounts but all the stupid software wants personal accounts. Why won't stupid microsoft let me set up onedrive with the work accounts? We're paying for all these email addresses and accounts. Or maybe they just want to force everyone over to 365, but of course all the different account levels are services are all obfuscated too. Ugh.

One Drive for Business is different than One Drive personal, and has it's own installation / config methods. If you can deploy via AD or Config Manager, I would.

We don't have an actual IT guy so I don't know how to do the deployment stuff and am loathe to learn. I'm the schmuck who stupidly displayed computer aptitude, and I'm also the token Asian, so everybody assumes I fix computers. I feel like I'm in that fuzzy spot where if I learn to do even more, then I'll get saddled with more. I don't mind per se, but then it means I have less time to do my actual work.

Yeah, I would copy/pasta that whole thing into an email to your manager, and tell them to hire IT people.

There's nothing wrong in telling people to piss off if it's not your job. And f**k their stereotypes.

Better yet, tell them I'm available to do remote IT consulting. I'm very inexpensive at $129k/year.

Removed OneDrive, I am a manual back-up type of person.

My machine runs Windows 10 Pro and OneDrive was on a personal account.

Even after cleaning up my files, making back-ups and whatnot I still received OneDrive notifications that are irrelevant and tell me nothing but old information. If this piece of software is supposed to synchronise and back-up, well it really did not work well for me.

Yeah onedrive is shit. I usually remove it along with a bunch of other crap with: https://github.com/Sycnex/Windows10Debloater It can remove something you need though but you can customize what it removes if you user the gui version.

Look, guys... Microsoft makes everything you do easier.

Everything. Right? That was their advertising slogan, maybe around W98. So it must be true.

Actually, I thought then, and now, that it was one of the biggest lies ever.
Usability peaked with WinXP. They've just been changing stuff to sell new versions since then.

Anyway, I guess I don't have to tell y'all how much I hate, despise, and avoid MS.

Yeah my patience for MS is very low as well. My win10 install is stripped bare and only used for games. For everything else i use Fedora.
